I thought it was hilarious - great job by Groening and Co. Some of the appearances, however brief, by some of the more minor characters in show history (ex: Gabbo) was a nice tip of the cap to the older fans, I thought.

if you didn't find it funny, then I think you are trying to hard to be entertained.....especially if "fuck" is the only thing that makes you laugh.

fair enough, however if you went into the movie expecting to see seasons 4-7 you were going to be dissappointed.

I read enough to know what to expect and the writers met those expectations. It wasn't "better" than the south park movie, but it will certainly reach more audiences. If it sucked I have stated as much.

It takes a lot to get me posting these days, so consider yourself lucky Panther.

Quote:
They should have gone for the R rating like South Park and be more risque.

I think if that's all you're looking for then I completely question what you look for in movies and TV to begin with. If it had to be rated R and more risque (which for The Simpons, it was by the way) then I really don't even value your "objective opinion." I think Doug was right that you were one of these people just hoping to hear say an F-bomb and suddenly now we have comedy.

Don't go jumping to conclusions (get it? it's a mat and you jump to conclusions on it) that Doug and I are these defenders of The Simpsons world either just because Doug made that comment. i can't speak for him, but I'm one of the people that haven't watched The Simpsons religously in probably 6-7 years. i watch re-runs when I can, but I thought it went downhill as most critics have said.

I think this movie was pretty damn funny. It had me laughing way more than I expected and i can't remember the last time I laughed that much watching The Simpsons. Lots of good bits and some edgier moments that we haven't seen from this show in awhile.

My only complaint out of the whole movie was i thought for one of the stronger bit characters, Mr. Burns, to not have that much of a part in it was slightly disappointing. However, with how well this movie did in the theaters and the fact we haven't gotten a real showing from Burns and nothing from Sideshow Bob at all makes me believe we will have a sequel down the line. And if the Simpsons can make me laugh as much as they did the last 87 minutes I watched them, then I'll be pleased. I find it hard to believe you didn't laugh that much or weren't entertained by the movie.

No sequel. Groening has already said no chance to that....

there were 89 speaking roles in as many minutes....

i used to not miss episodes. however, in the course of any given year i will catch most if not all of the 22+/- episodes via original air or reruns.
:)

Well I certainly didn't expect it to be funnier than any top tier episode. I had moderate expectations for it (raised from low expectations) and it delivered. I know its comparing apples & oranges, but I thought the South Park movie was OK- it was funny but I couldn't see myself watching it over and over. I thought the Simpsons movie was going to be similar- funny enough the 1st time but not worthy of repeat viewings. I think I'll certainly watch this more than once though. I liked it. Hey, you can't tell me when the Simpsons theme started and Frink came by with the "movie" flag thingy, you weren't pumped.

I'd have to think long and hard about it but off the top of my head "Itch & Scratchy land" & "Marge vs. Itchy & Scratchy" & "Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie" Yes, there's a theme........

Who Shot Mr. Burns?

Kent Brockman: Dozens of people are gunned down each day, but until now, none of them was important. I'm Kent Brockman. At 3:00 PM Friday, local autocrat C. Montgomery Burns was shot, following a tense confrontation at town hall. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was then taken to a better hospital where his condition was upgraded to "alive."

Sideshow Mel: Officers, you have arrested an innocent man!
Chief Wiggum: Really? Ah, jeez.
[Opens cell door]
Chief Wiggum: All right, Colossus, you're free to go. But stay away from Death Mountain.
Dr. Colossus: But all my stuff is there.

Chief Wiggum: Homer Simpson, you're under arrest for attempted murder.
Homer Simpson: D'OH!
Chief Wiggum: Yeah, that's what they all say. They all say "d'oh".

Top 10 for me:

10. A Streetcar Named Marge
9. Bart Gets an Elephant
8. Homer's Odyssey
7. Team Homer
6. Homer & Apu
5. Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington
4. Flaming Moe's
3. I Love Lisa
2. Lisa's First Word
1. Bart Sells His Soul

That was hard. Looking at all the episodes...i'd almost have to do a top 25 or top 30. some of them are just "classics", and others i just find hi-larious.

Need I say more? PG-13 = NOT FUNNY!

Well that's more than enough evidence for me.

I paid to see BASEketball three times in the theater.

I contend that a legitimately funny PG-13 movie was Norm MacDonald's magnum opus, Dirty Work.

"You tell Aldo and all those other sweaty Italian fruits that if they want the money, they can come here and get it themselves. And then he said some really bad things about that Mussolini character."

"Now I'll just have to see if these doctors can fix something else of mine. I'll give you a hint- it rhymes with 'cock'".

i'll tell you what i hate, is the PG-13 rating that has blanketed the horror genre. it's not bad enough that the true horror filmmakers aren't given any budgets, it's all hollywood studios trying to CGscrew the genre itself; but you talk about watering down the genre...I can only think of two movies that impressed me that were PG-13 rated horror films: "The Ring" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose"--neither were cinematic masterpieces, horror films rarely are, but that's two out of...I don't know...20 per year?

As much as I know people are against remakes (I am for most cases), I think it's a breath of fresh air that one will be done this year at least by a guy with vision--Zombie's "Halloween" re-imagining, I think should be pretty good.

I *hated* the "Dawn of the Dead" remake (though I'm a fan of James Gunn), and "The Hills Have Eyes", and I didn't even bother with "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remake.

Harold & Kumar = hilarious

Reno 911 = didn't see it

South Park = hilarious

BaseKetBall = worst movie ever created

Team America World Police = funny for 2 minutes...puppet sex.

Old School = this movie was fucking horrible...never understood why people think this movie is great. bad...bad...bad...

I concur with Doug. Never really got BASEketball. Just not very funny. Same with Team America. From the hype I was expecting greatness and maybe laughed three times.
