Yeah, cause that happens
  So you were lying to us when you said you got free drinks because of your radio presence? That's cool.

I'm suggesting stuff he really might consider. Guys suggesting the hookers and dancing girls are fine, but thats unlikely to be taken into serious consideration. If my advice is "suburban" that makes sense. I am a suburbanite and glad of it. I lived in Wrigleyville just after graduating from college for a year, before moving back to the suburbs. I liked some things about the city (and that area of it) but would never live there again. The traffic and parking problems, not enough golf courses and I like open spaces with trees and bushes and lots of grass. Too much concrete in the city for me.

I understand your likes but Wrigleyville has just about the biggest open space in the country sitting half a mile to its east with no need to even own a car if you work downtown. Different mentalities. Still, there are great non chaines in the suburbs.

When I said that there have been occassions that people have offered to buy me a beer at a remote that was true. But your suggestion that I would request free wings/beer from a server is ridiculous.

So you were lying. Its OK. Not the first time you have done that here, and certainly won't be the last.

Sure there are and some might be good/better options. I chose those establishments in part because wherever you live there is probably one close by and again the huge screens and great wings.

As far as not needing to own a car, even if you work downtown, unless all your friends reside in the city, going to see friends and family would be pretty inconvenient without a vehicle. You would have to have people picking you up from bus/train stations all the time. Not ideal. Plus, I wouldn't care much for riding public transportation. The idea of having to wait another hour for a train I barely missed doesn't suit me. Different mentalities for sure.

Don't change your story now. It had nothing to do with remotes, unless the remote is somehow after a softball game.

You can't even keep your story straight.

Thats true as well. It's happened at bars that sponsored our Softball teams, at remotes in Elmhurst as well as at the ESPN fantasy Football Convention. Elmhurst Steve is a well known "Brand". But I don't go asking for free food/beer. If someone wants to buy me a beer and chat a bit, fine. But the idea that I would ever request/demand something because I'm Elmhurst Steve is ridiculous.

This really brings into question the steak dinner story too.

I don't think its ridiculous at all. In fact, I think you doing something like that is quite plausible, if not likely.

The bar that sponsored us knew the team and that we spent a lot of money after games there. They knew we won trophys that sit on shelves there. My buddy Rich did indeed tell others at the bar from time to time that I was/am "Elmhurst Steve". He would usually begin by asking them if they listen to ESPN or the Score. If they said yes, he would ask if they know who the caller Elmhurst Steve is? If they said they did, he would say "well, let me introduce you to Elmhurst Steve....then, it was not uncommon that the individual would buy me a beer and talk a bit. Danny Mac knows Rich, I have brought Rich over to play Golf with Dan and Dan had him do some carpentry work at his home. He listens to sports radio all the time too, but never has called into a show. But he frequently calls me after I call in to give me his take on whatever I discussed.

No, it's ridiculous. Behaving in such a manner would tarnish "The Brand".

The Lady is heading down to Peoria Saturday morning.
I have all Saturday and most of Sunday to do whatever I want.

Hawks and NASCAR. Who's coming over?

THEE Steve in Elmhurst?!? My god, I remember that one call where you said if the Bears scored more points than the Packers that they would likely win the game. That call was great!

There was never a steak dinner

Steve called in to a radio show. We all laughed at how ridiculously dumb the call was. Then he called another show the same day with the same bad thought and we laughed more.

He was hurt. He lashed out the only way he knew how, by putting down White Sox fans. This eventually led him to the racist thoughts on Wrigley field.

No steak.

Just a guy who cares too much about radio shows, calling radio shows, and the reaction he gets to said calls.

So you have a friend that you often go to bars with that goes up to strangers in an attempt to create a connection between you and the other man? How often has this happened? How many times has he been shot down? I can only imagine what I would think if I'm sitting at a bar and some guy comes up to me and says "Do you like sports radio? Well, meet a guy who calls sports radio".

So Rich helps you meet other men at bars and frequently calls you? This sounds like a Sandra Bullock movie where Rich is helping you out hoping that one day Elmhurst Steve realizes that he's been looking for Rich all along.

There have actually been several dinner bets, as well as many more monetary bets with the same individual. This was just the only one I have ever had occassion to post about. We have 3 bets going now concerning Baseball. I have made bets with both Mac and Jurko over the years also, where the terms were a round of Golf. I collected each time on those. I like to make wagers regularly.... a steak dinner at a quality resturant just happened to be the term of that particular wager.

When you win your "steak dinner", do you actually get a steak, or do you get a bowl of soup and save the meal for another time?

This isn't really that hard to believe.

From what you all say, he calls into shows often and his name would be recognized by avid listeners. Much like Patio Steve and Raphi from Berwyn were back in the day.

You have quite an imagination...generally the team all drinks together after a game, but people (players from an opposing team or other bar patrons) will stop by where we are and often a discussion about sports will be taking place and they might make a comment and join into the conversation. From there Rich will take it upon himself from time to time to let them know who I am. It's really pretty pedestrian. But your little fanasy scenario is quite something.

Steve, Your friend is playing wingman for you with other softball players at suburban bars, yet Rick is the one fantasizing you say.

There it is...

The story has now devolved into the simple situation where people who engage in discussions at bars sometimes buy each other drinks. I've been in situations where a conversation has been struck with other people and drinks were bought.

If it was me in that situation though, I'd buy you a drink, and then laugh with my friends that a guy at a bar was bragging that his friend calls sports radio shows.
