There it is...

The story has now devolved into the simple situation where people who engage in discussions at bars sometimes buy each other drinks. I've been in situations where a conversation has been struck with other people and drinks were bought.

If it was me in that situation though, I'd buy you a drink, and then laugh with my friends that a guy at a bar was bragging that his friend calls sports radio shows.

Okay, and I would be laughing with my friends about some doink that just paid for my beer.

What would be the appropriate male comparison to a "panties dropping?"

A room full of spontaneous sack adjustment?

Not uncommon at all. Just last week I bought Maddux Boy a negligee from Victoria's Secret.

I meant people would buy you a beer perhaps after you introduced yourself. That's a real stretch there ES.

There is no way that story is true.

And if it was, I can't believe someone would be proud they won a steak dinner from a friend for being racist on the internet. I'm sure they'll all have quite a laugh over the racial slurs thrown out by Steve.

I got a PM from Steve about half an hour ago or so that basically said the same thing - I didn't take it public - I forwarded it to a couple of the people on the board who's opinion I trusted and they told me to leave it private. But since he came out with it publicly know, I feel it's ok to talk about it.

My response to him was pretty damn similar to what Seacrest said - see Seacrest, we can agree on some things.

I also said if this was the case, why didn't you PM someone BEFORE this gag/joke? Most likely they would have told him what an absolutely horrible idea it was.

I personally think it is Steve's way to save a little face - if there is any left.

I told him I didn't believe him - I can't believe someone would offend an entire race of people over a steak dinner - over anything actually - but for a steak dinner. I guess we know what the price of his integrity is now.

Moreso, I just find the thing very sad and I know by continuing to post it just furthers the whole thing but my god - I don't think there has ever been a more unifying thing to happen to the board, at least since I have been a member.

It happens to everyone here eventually.

Yes I do. As Mac pointed out to me recently-"Elmhurst Steve", is a branded name. I feel they need to get it right. People all around Chicagoland know who I am and it's gotten me a fair number of complimentary beers at bars after softball games when one of my buddies mentions that I am Elmhurst Steve. I can't go into a sports bar without some of the people inside knowing who Elmhurst Steve is. I have gotten invitations over the years to many Score and ESPN events and guest hosted years ago, all because the people at those stations value what I bring to their airwaves. I had an offer a year ago from a guy who wanted me to do a weekend sports talk show on the radio with him, just because he liked what I brought to the air on my calls. But while he was going to put up the money for the airtime, I would only be paid from advertizing dollars we would both be responsible for selling. I didn't care to undertake those duties with him, as I already have a business to run. I had talked to Mac and a couple others from ESPN and the Score for their opinions on it. I finally concluded that it might be fun, but it was not likely to be worthwhile. But there is no doubt about the fact that I have an ego and it's a sizeable ego at that. I do think that I am smarter and more insightful than the average fan and thats why doing the radio show really appealed to me.
