Heading here with the family in a few weeks and spending 4 days. Any places that are must see or must eat? I have heard Pancake Pantry but there has to be something more Nashville original than that. Any good BBQ places?

I'll be out there for a week with work so I'll be interested to see what is posted. Pretty sure there have been
at least one thread on Nashville before. Unfortunately my stay will be out at the Gaylord Opryland and not
really near the downtown area.

That's where we are staying. Its not too far from downtown. 10 min drive.

Didn't realize it was that close. I may have to cab it downtown. I was there for a trade show there probably
a dozen years ago and found the city to be agreeable with me. Hard to tell after one night I suppose.

I love downtown Nashville, as it is just bar after bar of live music and a lot of good scenery to take in. One of cooler places is Printer's Alley, it has been around forever and all of the old country music stars used to play there. Tootsie's is also a very well known place. As far as food there, I never really go up that way to eat. My mother and family live in Murfreesboro, which is about a half hour away.

We went to breakfast at some restaurant in an old house on the outskirts of town. It was awesome but it's been years since we've been there and I can't remember the name.

Hope that helps.

Nope. I tried googling but couldn't find it. It was in an old clapboard house. Probably out of business.

I really added to this thread nicely. For my next trick, I'll try and recommend a hotel in Nashville that I can't remember.

Total hole in the wall place, but one of the best burgers I've ever had.

Wildhorse has decent BBQ and the fried pickles are the bomb. Mellow mushroom over near Vandy is really nice. I have heard decent reviews of sunset grill which is over near Pancake Pantry. Not sure how the Aquarium is now that the mills re-opened, when we went there in 08 food was decent and decor was kind of interesting.
Tootsies is doing some renovations so ask your hotel or call and see when they are opened. And if you want to listen to music and you can go during the day as you can sit and listen to some good local musicians.
Mike's Ice cream is a neat place on Broadway, historic building and decor.

Do they still have the conservatory at the Opryland Hotel? There used to be a little bar right near the waterfall - great zucchini bread.

The house - Ms. Mary Bobo's? Think it is still around.

Try Loveless Café and Monell's. Copper Kettle is okay for breakfast.

And I'm trying to recall this little place - a chain down there - great fried okra and catfish. But for the life of me I don't remember. Reminded me of a Culver's inside - but better food.

Red Wagon in east Nashville was the name of the place in the house. Long since closed.

Interesting - i had been told http://thepharmacynashville.com/ was the place for burgers there. I will ask some locals and see what they say.

Thanks!

Will be here August 14 - 18 for work. Work ended up putting us in the Sheraton right downtown and not way out
at the Opryland so this opens up a number of possibilities for me. I won't have a car but the hotel seems smack
dab in the middle of town so should be close to a lot of things. I read through some of the suggestions again and
will take note before I leave. I would enjoy some good local food and some live music for sure. I should have at
least two evenings open to explore. Any further suggestions would be appreciated of course.

Where you are staying there is literally live music every 5 steps, you will just have to pick out what you want to hear.

Jack's BBQ on Broadway(?) downtown is pretty good but can be a little hit or miss. I absolutely love Nashville.
