I think that you got anything for him was a bit of a coup -- there must have been some concern that there would be a market for him, as hard as that is to believe. A 6th round pick isn't much, but it is better than nothing which is what you would have received.

I think the harm in keeping him is that you know he isn't any good, and he's using a roster spot that you could have evaluated some other player in. Maybe this guarantees a little extra breathing room for Jordan Mills.

It's hard to decipher what Biggie is getting at sometimes. I think he's questioning why they are still employed given the Bears drafts the past 5-7 years. Could be totally wrong though.

It's fair to question their specific recruiting history. But you'd have to take the west coast area scout and see what players turned out that he scouted, and do the same with the Big Ten guy.

Shiver most certainly scouted Carimi, but now focuses on the Big Ten (didn't scout Long). Barrett, who is now in charge of college scouting (likely strongly involved on drafting Long), was an area scout for the West when Carimi was scouted.

I'm not defending either of their scouting ability, I haven't taken up the time to see what players came out of their territories. I'm just pointing out the obvious flaws in trying to tie them to both the Carimi and Long picks. Just being in the building doesn't mean anything.

Anyone involved with drafting Carimi should not be in the building.

That the Bears apparently had no use for Carimi is unfortunately not surprising given Angelo's draft history, but I'm kind of annoyed, assuming they wanted to get rid of him a long time ago, that they didn't try and get more for him. It would seem that dealing a guy after some no-shows at OTAs is a deal done at precisely the wrong time. Again I don't know when they decided to get rid of him, but why not wait a little, float some rhetoric around indicating how the Bears see "big things" for him next year at whatever OL position, support the theory that his mediocre play last year was due to lingering injuries, remind everyone that he's still a young prospect with potential, and then see what you can get for him? I know trade partners won't base their evaluations of Carimi on just what the Bears say about him, but it can't hurt to try to inflate his value.

I know he was never going to yield in a trade anything close to the value of a first round pick, but since you used a first rounder on him, you've got to recoup as much of that value as you can when you deal him as a matter of principle. Dealing him for a sixth rounder seems to indicate that the Bears just wanted him gone, regardless of what they'd get back.

The first thing Emery should have done is fire every scout and replace them all, I don't need to see who drafted what. Region..they grade out poor across the board, every one of them.

Guys, I believe Matt Forte was a second rounder. If my memory serves, he was drafted 44th overall.

Forte was second round, but still the Bears first pick overall of that draft. Their first rounder was gone due to the Cutler trade.
