...with Rizzo and Castro looking like fool's gold and all those great prospects in A ball it looks like the earliest you will see some light is 2015 with winning seasons no earlier that 2017. It seems like a long term contract for Samardzija would not be a good investment as he will be well into his 30s when the team is good.

I don't follow the Cubs closely, but isn't this a sort of noncompetitiveness-by-design situation? if i recall correctly, Epstein completely demolished any personnel/scouting/management structure Hendry established, both at the majors and minors level, so it would seem that implementing a new strategic vision at every level of the organization would take a long time to happen.

Does this have any precedent? A new GM taking control of a team, tearing it down, and rebuilding almost exclusively through the draft and cost-effective FA signings? if so, what have the time periods looked like for those teams?

Rizzo is fine, he's doing exactly what was expected and Castro will likely be fine

This is a desperate attempt at trolling fueled by the emptiness filling up space where dolphin's white sox confidence used to be

I understand. The Sox are awful and look to remain that way for a while. I'd be jealous of any team with a future too

Ricketts can't be happy with a 3-game series against the Reds averaging only 27k fans in the middle of June. (Yes, it's better than other teams, but probably not what he had in mind when he bought the team). I wonder if it's possible that we'll see 15-20k at Wrigley this summer/fall.

The Royals are going on year 20 of the rebuild.

Slow and steady wins the race.

In 2 years (approximately) Rizzo and Castro will have enough help between Soler and Baez and possibly Almora, to be much more competitive. There is a good chance Kris Bryant will be on the club by that point too. Then, all they will have to do, is fill in a few slots in the pitching staff. With plenty of money (Soriano will be gone) to spend at that point they can identify a few top pitchers to add to the mix. Having patience is not easy at times, but the plan is a good one and it will pay dividends before very long.

TB Rays after Friedman took over.

So the best case scenario is not winning a WS and making the playoffs every other season or so. Isnt that what Jim Hendry did?

Cub have like 100x the resources TB has, and a much better stadium deal. Rays had to do it this way, because almost everything had to go perfect. They still may yet win a Series. Cub have a much bigger margin of error.

This is actually a good question. When will the fan base start bellering? Ever? Objectively, you'd have to say four more years? At least they're a couple of years ahead of the Sox in that regard.

High A guys will not see an MLB field until at least 2015 and most likely later. Those that do will probably not be playing winning baseball immediately. 2016 is a generous estimate. 2017 is the more likely scenario

We can't even get any proper Cub trolls in the Cardinal section

So what you're saying is they're only 22 roster spots away from being more competitive.

2022. Two years before Kenny is fired.

Someone was on the air last weekend saying he thought KW would soon be looking to get into broadcasting. I can just picture JR hiring him to replace Hawk just to destroy the majority of my white sox viewing lifetime.

No thats not even close. Travis Wood is a solid starter, Wellington Castillo works as a catcher if no upgrade develops in the system over the next couple years that is superior. With an infield of Castro, Baez, Rizzo and Bryant and an outfield of Almora, Soler and possibly Bret Jackson and Castillo at catcher, they could be in good shape. Now it's quite possible one or two of those guys doesn't pan out....lets say Jackson never develops into the player many thought he would become. They will have plenty of money for a Curtis Granderson or other top outfielder as well as some pitchers to fill out the pitching staff, if they are not developed by then within the system. No, I do not believe they are just 3 players deep at this point, by any means and anyone that can add, can see the players I listed in the original post is greater than 3. Go troll elsewhere couch thief.

A couple years ago Darkside wrote in a thread that he had to get a new couch, as he had never owned a new couch and the one he possessed, he had stolen and smelled of piss at that point. Whether he stole it with piss stains already on it, or had issues with incontinence after stealing the sofa, I cannot say.

Actually, it is 100% TRUE.

When something is posted that I find to be especially interesting (like say Frank walking in on his girlfriend giving some other guy a blowjob) I never forget it. This is another example.
