They have TVs in the press box.

I'd agree that the commentator's perspective is enhanced by being present at the game.

Agree to disagree. Someone actively watching the game at home will be able to do a much better job describing plays and x's and o's after the fact than a TV in a pressbox or any experience at the game. I don't need my hosts to tell me the place was loud or people were excited.

But the host's job isn't really describing plays or talking x's and o's. If it is, they are all failing miserably at their jobs. They should go to games, at least on occasion, because that's what being a fan is. How can you act like the voice of the fan when you aren't a fan yourself? If you never go to any games, you aren't really a fan of sports, you're a fan of sports on television. There is a huge difference.

I don't even care about hockey, but if I were downtown anyway and had a free ticket. Why the hell not? go grab a steak dinner afterward. (BOOM)

I heard this yesterday in tranny. Beerstain, when offered by Mac to come on the show and talk to Wirtz, just bitched out with a weak excuse of "I can't." And then Teary said Dan couldn't because he was busy. But Dan did answer his own question a moment later when he admitted the reason Hull still has a job is because he is a Hawks all-time great and Collins is an easily replaceable reporter. This was the same answer any high functioning primate could have deduced a month ago when the story first broke.

What is there job? To entertain? Provide a laugh or two along the way. You don't need to be at a game for that.

I'd agree that my definition of being a fan does involve going to games, but that doesn't mean it's the only nor necessarily right definition. Dan has never really marked his brand to be a voice of the fan. Maybe that was the mission statement when 670 started, but it's certainly moved a long ways away from that and I can't remember a time when Dan carried himself that way.

Very well for himself.

Looks like they all had a good time.

Well except for the daughter who was at home being babysat by Ten Foot Midget.

I certainly do not consider radio hosts "the voice of the fan." Hell, a lot of the time they are purposely the opposite.

And there is NOT a difference between being a fan of sports on tv and in person. That's nuts. I love football. I love it less in person.

Then he isnt allowed to question anything anymore. Either you talk about it or dont do the interview, Sack up like Silvy did to Armstrong and tell him to pound sand up his fucking ass if its not allowed to be brought up.

If I was truly a member of the B and B ALS society, I would just say that Wirtz is management -- Armstrong isn't -- so that's maybe why Berns deserves a pass.
BUT, didn't Silvy get into it with Jerry Reinsdorf during an interview? If that's the case, I would give him points over Bernsie in this case.

Looking back, I think Reinsdorf was upset with Carmen -- not Silvy.
Still, I believe Silvy would've wanted to talk with Rocky Wirtz.
Cannot agree with Bernsie's stance.

Also, I would say they are "the voice of the fan" when it suits them to be that. If not, why do any interviews? For your own edification? No, an interviewer is representing the fan. And he'll be sure to point that out when some subject is a disrespectful douchebag.

It was all an elaborate play by JR to break from ESPN1000. Carm and Silvy were unknowing pawns.

What if I cant afford to spend the money on tickets? Am I not a football fan because I can only watch on TV? It isnt baseball where you can drop 20 bucks and get a cheap ticket to a midweek lame matchup.

You don't love football unless you are actually on the field playing. You all are a bunch of pussies.

There is all sorts of cheap football to attend. MUD offers NU tickets. There is good high school football every weekend.

And if you only enjoy football being played at the highest level? Just a fan of a TV show unless you have a PSL?

How many times have you listened to your favorite band? How many times have you seen them live?

I guess you don't love that band. You love cd's and mp3's.

This is just a continuation of this argument: http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=48985

I assume since you are a newer poster and probably didn't even know that section exists that you never saw it.
