He has expressed all of those thoughts, but I don't really think he intellectually believes them. They just come right out of him. He can't help it.

But he obviously has a view of blacks as some sort of exotic creatures that are "cool" in ways he wishes he could be, but ultimately are still just creatures. I've known a lot of white guys on the North Shore that have the same viewpoint.

We all have bigoted beliefs. If you talk for 4 hours a day, every day, little bits are revealed. Then they are magnified here by x1000 and attached for life.

I don't think he consciously or actively is treating others poorly based on their race. I do believe he has a little more pronounced anti christian bias that was probably learned early in life...not a hatred, but a wariness.

I think the Paula Deen thing probably has a genesis in his sister getting snubbed by her somwhere along the way at the Food Network.

I think he's more class based when it comes to his discrimination, it's much safer that way.

Jews become Doctors/Lawyers/other learned professionals that must be listened to at all times.
Irish/Italian/etc become people that use "We" when talking about their sports teams.
Asians become proprietors of some restaurants that I like.
Blacks become potential shooting victims who don't know that they should move to a less shooty neighborhood/breeders of potential wang whippers.

I don't think this is true. I just think he hasn't had much exposure which is pretty common if you live in Chicago. Therefore, he overcompensates when he is trying to fit in or generalizes when he is trying to make a point.

I don't know it to be true, which is why I wrote it the way I did. He just seems a little too interested in something to which he otherwise has no connection...like when Stern makes fun of Amanda Peet.

If that happens to be true, that actually just makes the column worse and he becomes even less credible. Again, this is a fan saying this.

This is purely beardownian of me. I'm just trying to put pieces together as to why he would care. Deen's empire is entirely based on the free market. If people are offended the free market will show its disapproval.

That's a very good theory. His vitriol for Paula Deen is weird. I mean, there are hundreds of actors, politicians, etc every year who make extremely racist comments. Why the focus on Deen? And yes, I have watched his sister on the Food Network before.

This coming from the man who just made a tweet about Paula Deen and has listened to his on-air personality talk way too much about a woman who doesn't deserved to be talk about much at all on a sports talk radio show. I love when they are ridiculously hypocritical. Or worse yet get called out on it and then resort to name calling or acting as if it isn't true.

Lawrence seemed an unwilling participant when they were talking about Paula Deen being a racist. He might want to back off when Dan gets hardcore. It could damage his reputation with the TV people if he backs any "extreme" position Bernsy might express...
