The communal experience at the Ryder Cup last year was a fantastic experience. Meeting people from different countries and seeing so many people forsaking updates via smartphone and just enjoying the action in front of them. The best was waiting for the old-timers to update each match on the wooden scoreboards.

And my experience at the Ryder Cup was being stuck in a bottleneck on the cart path, which took about 45 minutes to travel 200'. All the while stuck behind a fat ass puffing away on a cigar.

That's why Sunday is the way to go with all the singles matches. Otherwise you need to get to a spot early and stay there.

Let us be clear about this argument...

We don't care if you're a fan; in fact, there may be no such thing, but we must define it and condemn those who don't fit in that category.

But we really don't even care. Why do YOU care so much!? Just do what you want!

There ya go. Reality is at its most real when experience is privatized in accordance with the values of the professional-managerial elite and neoliberal orthodoxy.

Fuck collective identity.

God damn, it must suck to be his kid. "No you cannot have that new Stanley Cup t-shirt or hat! Stop celebrating with your friends! Go to your closet, and think about what the cup means to you!"

Does "properly appreciating the win" include crying? Because that's what Dan said he did when the White Sox won. What kind of a meatball cries over sports?

Who has condemned anyone? But don't be stupid. If you played a simulation of Pebble Beach in Wooddale, you didn't play Pebble Beach. "OH no! It was actually better than Pebble Beach. There were no mosquitoes and I didn't have to wait for the drink cart. I just walked to the snack bar. Why would I want to play the real Pebble Beach???? Television is a picture. A two dimensional representation of a three dimensional event. If you think it's the same thing, you're an idiot.

I hate baseball and go to a couple games a year. I loved football and almost never went. It's not a fun experience for me.

That's because you're an American, Spaulding. You don't really hate baseball. Football may be on your television but baseball is in your soul.

People like being outside and eating hot dogs. You aren't a fan of baseball. You are a fan of picnics.

Not made by strangers.

True. A sandwich always tastes better when it's made by someone else.

Nah. I stupidly bought the mlb.tv package this year to watch the White Sox. I'm just using the same logic that JORR is when he tries to explain why people like football by pretending like people only like it for those reasons.

Terrible analogy. Apples and oranges. Your example is playing, not watching. Whether you are at a game or watching on TV, you are a spectator. Jim Belushi approves of your message.

I hope Danny wasn't watching Wimbledon, because that BBC reporter who interviewed Andrew Murray after the match seemed happy that an Englishman won for the first time in 77 years.
