ASSAIC, N.J. (AP) — A Cleveland Browns rookie is charged with attempted murder for allegedly punching a man outside a club in northern New Jersey.

Ausar Walcott turned himself in to Passaic police Tuesday after he was identified as a suspect in the incident that happened around 3 a.m. Sunday.


Authorities tell The Record newspaper the 23-year-old Hackensack native and former University of Virginia player punched 24-year-old Derrick Jones in the head just after The Palace Gentlemen’s Club closed. Police say Jones, who is from New York City, is in critical condition.

Walcott is held on $500,000 bail. It’s not clear if he has a defense lawyer.

The linebacker was signed by the Browns last month. In a statement, the team says it is “aware of the situation.”

A body blow is the way to go.

You can get into a drunken fight, throw some punches and everyone walks away just fine. Or you can throw a drunken punch, knock the other guy over, (or he could lose balance and trip) he falls backwards and hits the back of his head hard on the concrete....that's a no Gouda.

I'm willing to bet the dude that got hit wasn't even looking when the punch was thrown.

A couple years ago at a Bulls game, I saw a punch like that thrown. Two dudes were yelling at each other, and about to go at it. I think it was over someone's girl, or something stupid like that because some dumb bitch was in the middle of it. A friend of one of the two guy's plays peacemaker, and breaks up the near scrum, and one of the guys and peacemaker turn to walk away. The next thing that happens, peacekeeper gets punched from behind, BAM, like Shaq on Brad Miller style, except this one connected. Dude went down hard and wasn't getting up, and melee ensued.
