Gar and his land of enchantment connection. Bad in the NCAA tournament but good in other lobo games. Not sold on this choice. I look at this as a head case choice. Damn. He couldn't create a shot against Harvard. Say it ain't so...

Liked others better but this area of the draft is kind of the bulls wheelhouse

Rice is not 1st round material. He's worth a flyer in the 2nd though.

Where are you guys getting the Eddie Robinson comparison? Do you mean Robinson as in someone without a true position, or as in somewhat of a head case?

I don't know anything about the guy, but from what I'm reading he's a guy who can shoot but not drive to the rim. I know something Conns posted in a different thread suggested this guy can be a Deng backup, but what if the Bulls are hoping to develop this guy to the point where they can trade Deng and have Snell take Butler's spot on the bench?

This Bullets blog post I'm reading seems pretty down on him. I'll past an excerpt here:

Quote:
Pro potential/Wizards fit: Snell's game reminds me a lot of a player who is already a Washington Wizard: Martell Webster. Similar to Webster, Snell's a rangy shooting specialist who can excel in situations in which his role is to make open three point shots and play passable, if not elite defense.

The problem is, he's just not that good.

While Snell's shooting and length are good, they're far from great. His poor athletic indicators and relatively-advanced age for a rookie don't bode well for his future. While he should get a close look from a number of teams due to how in demand his skillset is, he's unlikely to be anything more than a fringe player unless he shows the ability to contribute in other areas.

Even his vaunted shooting, which is a skill that should translate to the next level, is dependent on his ability to round out his game. There's no reason for defenders to not close out aggressively every time the ball swings to him and that's going to make it far more difficult for him to crack the 40-percent barrier that tends to separate the truly valued shooters from the replaceable ones.

Can he do it? Sure, and he could be a decent value pick if Washington can get him in the middle of the second round. That said, this is the part of the draft where simply making a team as a 12th man can be considered a success. Snell might be able to pull that off, but is it really worth using a roster spot on him when there should be low-cost veteran alternatives that might be better players on day one?

He's a troubled talent.

But Snell seems like a pretty good pick.

I have to ask...why would you choose to post a scouting report from a Wizards blog?

Well I don't think the blog's team affiliation is relevant. Besides, it's not like this blog is saying anything different than what's posted here...they just took a more negative slant.

I also didn't seek to make a point with the report, I just threw it out there for consideration. I did want to know, however, if you all had anything on the Eddie Robinson comparisons. Was that in regards to talent, or something else?

As for the Tony Snell pick, it's hard to say if he'll play much right away or if he'll get the dreaded you know what sitting next to HC Tom Thibodeau.

You know...DNP-CD.

He's easily the ugliest player on the roster. He'll be great by 2014.

Tough crowd...I'm not sure what you're referring to by ROY, and like I said to Zip, how is the blog's team affiliation relevant? Every team gathers information on every potential draft pick. It's simply player intel that I read, among other pieces, in order to get to know more about Snell.

For what it's worth, I hope Snell develops quickly enough to make management comfortable with dealing Deng. To me, it seems like this move is a precursor to replacing Deng/Butler with Butler/Snell.

Develop quickly to replace Deng? This is the 20th pick in what looks like a weak draft that we are talking about. His ceiling is probably not high enough to replace Deng, and it will likely take him three years to even reach that level.

That's exactly right. 3-4 year project at best. dude must have put rocks in his jock when they weighed him at 198.

Did not mean to imply Snell is Deng's replacement. If the reports about Deng being shopped are accurate, then the Bulls most likely believe Butler is Deng's replacement - not Snell.

In drafting Snell, I am wondering if the Bulls are preparing for Deng's departure by restocking the SF position. Of course they could also hold on to all three and go from there.

couldn't they have traded down or something? If Phil Emery made this pick, people would be hysterical.
