I don't know if Priceline's name your own price tool has been mentioned, but that's something you could try for Gurnee.

I just checked it out and it looks like the highest rated hotels they offer in that area are graded with 3 stars: http://www.priceline.com/hotels/ameniti ... N&S=3&C=US

The disadvantage is that you're obligated to pay a no refund fare without even knowing the specific hotel in which you'll be placed; you just know it will be in the general vicinity of Six Flags. I've had no issues when using this tool for major metropolitan areas like Chicago and DC, but haven't used it yet for smaller places.
