Well you SHOULDN'T ignore those things. That's a child like way of doing things. "I'm going to eat this entire cake and I don't care if I get sick and you have to take care of me or clean up the mess I make." One way or another we are all connected.

Schtick.

The show has run its course. It's been a fairly successful run, minus the years getting beat by MJH, and this is now the MO to get reaction. I think maybe Dan is bored by the whole sports talk thing and trolling is what gets the callers and comments on his articles.

But adults aren't children and shouldn't be treated as such by a hypocritical father figure government. If I eat too much cake and shit myself or whatever, that's on me. It isn't, and shouldn't be, my neighbors responsibility to clean it up.

We're never going to see eye to eye on this. Might as well drop it. I respect and understand your position, and I realize its the more accepted one at this point and time.

Mitch is a sackless play-it-safe corporate type who most likely wont make changes unless the ratings change. Then again, he fired Murph when Murph has the highest ratings on the Score. When Mitch announced that he wasn't taking the WGN radio job, I imagine Berns was running around in his underwear like a little kid celebrating.

You're right. We are actually in agreement except I take a more nuanced approach.

Should drunk driving be legal? After all, most people who drive drunk don't get in accidents.

We've already established in another thread that society has no desire to stop drunk driving. We have the technology to do so if we want to.

The law is stupid. If alcohol is legal, and cars exist people will drive drunk. We've already tried Prohibition once. It didn't work. I say, weigh how the guy is driving rather than what's causing him to drive that way. For example, you may be perfectly fine driving to work all hopped up on caffeine. If you are obeying the rules of the road, you shouldn't be hassled by cops. Another guy may drink that venti latte and get all twitchy and ride my bumper all the way down the Major Deegan. He should be thrown in jail.

No. But I don't think it should be legal to set up a road block to fuck with people who are obeying the rules of the road no matter how fucked up they are. And if your grandma is sober as a judge and she is driving as erratically as the average drunk, she should face the same consequences as a drunk. It's about road safety, not a moral judgment on alcohol, right?

It's about choice though. The grandmother is not choosing to make herself a worse driver. She just is. Now, the system definitely fails that she is on the road, but it's not the same as intentionally making yourself a worse driver than when you got licensed.

It's a moral judgement too. It's about choice. It's just like the difference between murder and involuntary manslaughter. The main difference is choice. Both are considered bad but one is considered worse. Drunk driving which results in damage or injury should be treated differently than some guy who reacts slowly and rear ends someone.

However, to take it back to FavreFan's point, it's really just a way to show that we ban things all the time because of what might happen as a result. If we didn't, we'd have about 5 laws total, and our society would be significantly more dangerous.

Well, if we're morally judging alcohol, let's just do away with it. I'd be fine with that and find it a far less hypocritical stance. If it's really about road safety, grandma should be cuffed and printed.

And it is a choice. Does she really think she's a good driver? No, but she has to get somewhere. Just like the drunk does. Their need to travel shouldn't trump everyone else's need for road safety. In the drunk's case, we make sure it doesn't. In grandma's case, apparently we believe it does.

I agree. We've come to believe that safety is the value that trumps all others. The rugged individualist is dead. Except for me and Darkside. We're fighting the good fight.

Once again, let me point out that grandma was given a license and told she was fit to drive on the roadways in that condition. I doubt the drunk driver was drunk when he passed his driving exam.

It's honestly like you ignored my whole post.

I'm with Favre Fan, live and let live. Of course idiots will have an impact on the rest of us. Unfortunately, people are all too willing to allow government intrusion, giving up freedom and privacy all in the name of security.

You're ignoring my point. Is the law in place to ensure road safety or to judge the consumption of alcohol? I'm sure our MBTI profiles are quite different. I'm very results-oriented.

Welcome to the rugged individualists club, denis! When Darkside arrives we'll have a quorum.

It's to judge the consumption of alcohol with driving which causes road safety issues. "or" is not needed. It can be both and it is, which is why the combination is worse than either one on it's own.

Drivers under 25 and over 65 cause road safety issues and are not needed either. There's always that public transportation you like so much.

You can try and change the topic all you want, but the problem with drunk driving adds a completely different layer where a person is choosing to make themselves a significantly worse driver. Yes, some people are bad drivers, but they aren't choosing to be even worse drivers by drinking first.

It's too far gone, sorry, Tad.

Another seemingly awesome thread thrown into the ditch of poo.

All we need is someone to make an off the cuff remark about what makes someone a real fan and we will be off to the races

Oops.

Since you asked. If you say you've gone to a football game and you hated it, why the fuck would I think you were a fan?

What if I get too drunk to drive to the game, and then I have to watch at home? Am I a fan, a drunk fan, or just a drunk?

Right. You'd have to be dumb to think someone that went to a game and hated it was a fan of said game and when they went home and watched the same event on TV and loved it, you'd have to agree they were a fan of a television program. Unless you're dumb.

I'm down with getting back to bashing bernstein, by the way, but threads evolve as they go. I don't see much point in complaining about the way they evolve. Just post your own thoughts.
