But before that, general manager Ken Williams spoke separately to Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko before a team meeting for players, coaches and manager Jerry Manuel.

The team hit a rough patch before the All-Star break when Manuel benched the slumping Thomas last weekend. Miffed, Thomas showed up late for batting practice and pregame stretching Sunday, a day after declining to sit in the dugout or join in the postgame handshake line after the Sox beat Cleveland. Konerko promptly criticized Thomas for his selfish behavior.

"I'm done talking about it," Thomas said as he sat alone by his locker before Thursday night's game against the Tigers.

"I'll be all right," Thomas added. "I've been through this [stuff] before. I'll survive. I've already talked to everybody."

He just seemed more weird than anything, from what I remember. The whole "dinosaurs never exited" thing.

He will always be one of my favorites. Everett was definitely strange, but a lot of fans forget that he carried the Sox offense for the first 6-8 weeks of 2005. Konerko was hitting under .200 well into May, and Everett and Dye where the run producers on that club.

Hurt had a surprisingly good first half too. I pretty much thought he was done going into that season but he had a little bit left until he went on the shelf for the year.
