Interesting and good point. The Garza injury definitely helped them get this return for Feldman.

Great call Dan.

What did you want them to get for a 4th starter?

They got back a couple of pitchers with MLB experience and the cap room to sign prospects. Yeah the international signings could end up being bad but so could some A ball prospects that they might get from someone else.

Pitching is very valuable at the deadline. A decent prospect instead of reclamation projects and a lottery ticket.

They already signed the #2 (or 3 depending if you like BA or MLB ratings) and are the odds on favorite to sign the #1. The money for the #1 is because of this deal. Not including the other 2 top 20 that they did sign.

Pretty stellar day for the Cubs in terms of talent acquired. Sure these kids are young and very raw, but rebuilding a team is about acquiring as much talent as possible, they've done that today in spades.

A prospect is a lottery ticket. They all are... How many cant miss prospects have the Cubs had?

You just want to buy a lottery ticket from an A ball team in Sioux City instead of a lottery ticket from Venezuela.

Yikes, not a method I would recommend. At all. Bad.

I'm not surprised. When you read or listen to what others have to say before having a thought it really isn't your opinion it's theirs.

I hope this is a bit, if not you sound like an idiot.

It isn't. If your initial thought is you like something but after listening to "experts" you find out they all hate it, do you change your mind? I hope not UNLESS someone mentions something you didn't consider.

I dont know anything about international free agents so yes, I do listen to experts give their opinions on them. Forming an opinion should be based on getting all the facts from as many sources as possible, not jumping to conclusions for no reason.

Especially in this case. You are upset that they didnt get a decent prospect but they got the money to sign the #1 and #2 prospect. Logic disconnect...

Experts commend Hoyer in acquiring living human in Marmol trade

by Mariotti Jr.
on Jul 2, 2013

Find out how you can write for The Heckler!
Many people in the baseball world expressed shock over the news that the Cubs acquired a living, breathing human being, pitcher Matt Guerrier formerly of the Dodgers, in exchange for Carlos Marmol.

“I almost choked on my cigar smoke when I heard the trade,” Steve Stone said. “Is there any way I can switch teams again? Jed Hoyer is a genius.”

“That’s the second best acquisition is the history of sports,” Skip Bayless said. “Number one of course being the Patriots signing my boy Tim Tebow.”

Ned Coletti, the Dodgers general manager, does not see what all the fuss is.

“I’ve had people tell me that not even a drunk Patrick Kane would make the deal but look at the guy’s stats. He’s unhittable!”

When told that his computer only had Marmol’s stats up to 2010, Coletti threw the computer out the window.

I view international lottery tickets because they're bigger unknowns IMO and even the ones teams were waiting to spend $100M on end up sucking.

They will spend more buying out Marmol's 2nd half of the season than they will on all these guys.

Yeah but in this case the Cubs dont have to go with whomever some other team was willing to give up, they got the money to go sign whatever prospect they want.

I had the facts and I have enough knowledge to give my educated opinion. These "experts" are usually wrong. My track record says I'm right far more often than I am wrong. Even when the experts disagree.

Chris the next time you post something where you aren't basically quoting something someone else said or wrote will be a first. I try not to give much weight to your sports posts.

Jake Arrieta is a very worthwhile gamble for the Cubs. Lots of talent, and if it kicks in, they'll have something really good on their hands

uh...that's the Cubs fault and Dempster's too.

But I think this was a good deal. Have to trust the experts. Unlike the clairvoyant Nas.

I get what Nas is saying and can agree with it in situations where I'm comfortable that I have enough knowledge on the subject.

Plus no one knows what they're talking about regarding 16/17 year old kids anyway.

You can't agree with Nas, because he already said it before you. Now you're just agreeing with the expert. And according to him, experts are always wrong. So you're wrong, since you agreed with Nas, the expert.

How many missed bad in the first round? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Maj ... ball_Draft

How many players breakthrough every year that weren't highly ranked by their organization? How many times do you hear these experts say a guy is a 5-tool player or a can't miss prospect. I'm a fan just like you are but it appears you're more willing to buy whatever is being pushed.

Getting lost in all this craziness today is that unless I'm mistaken the Cubs have to get Bryant signed in the next 10 days.
