I never stand by the pump when I'm filling up the tank. Always leave it, and return to my car to listen to the stereo. I never paid attention to it until someone pointed it out, but I do seem to be in the minority. Most people stand by the pump, some with their hand on the trigger.

What do you do?

I only go back in the car if it's freezing out. Otherwise, I stand by the pump.

As far as hand on the trigger, I do that only if the latch doesn't work on its own. And a lot of times, the gas cap fits perfectly as the trigger holder.

hate the pumps that go really slow....like the numbers are spinning like crazy, you look after 5 minutes and only 1 gallon has been pumped

always happens in the winter

Wash the windows or throw out some water bottles or anything that needs to be thrown away in the car.

I have another gas station question. Why in the hell did I see 2 people smoking regular cigarettes at the gas station yesterday? One lady was at the pump and inhaled as many times as possible before putting out her cigarette on the ground right next to the pump and then proceeded to operate the pump. What the fuck???? The other guy was filling up his riding lawn mower and lit one up after he filled up the rusted ole cub cadet.

Would it be any different if they smoked menthols?

Well....at first I thought they of course would have been E-Cigarettes.

Probably a good idea to stand by the pump as the auto shutoff valves have been known to malfunction (though rarely).

Had that happen at the gas station near my house. Fucking gas everywhere. It was only about $5-10 worth. I didn't want a refund, but simply told the clerk that their pump malfunctioned, and there is gas everywhere. She looked at me and "What do you want me to do about it?" I just walked out and now refuse to go there, even though it's the closest station to my house. F her.

The station at Golf/Roselle has the slowest pumps I've ever encountered.

Walk to Yu's for lunch while your tank is filling.

This, then the first thing I do is wash hands with the hand Sanitizer gel I keep in car, filthy places.

Is that gas city still there on plum grove and higgins? They have racing fuel there. Once I put a half tank of that into my sunbird. It did not turn it into a race car.

That was a Gas City...I used to work around the corner from there, and they were consistently 5 cents higher than every other station in the area. Greg's right...that station at Golf and Roselle sucks. There used to be this homeless guy that would walk around begging for change at the station on Golf and Higgins in the morning...he used to get chased out of there by the people in the store, and come back every day.

I do stand by the pump waiting...because of the auto shutoff question...and I had more problems with that in Schaumburg than anywhere else.

Watch out! The static electricity from inside your car can cause a spark when you go back to the pump and start you on fire.....not shitting you. Saw this on a news report once.

I'm pretty sure that the little thing that keeps pumping gas even when you aren't holding on to it is illegal here. All of the gas stations have removed them. The actual thing is still there but it doesn't have the plate that keeps it up. It's very annoying. I even found one place that had it on a new pump. The next time I went back, it was gone.

Also, no gas stations anywhere have car washes and I don't know if I've ever seen a true automatic car wash. If you want your car washed, you either do it yourself, or pay 15 dollars to have them run it through and then dry it by hand.

So there, I answered your question.

What??

Have you ever stopped at any of the tollway oases?

The gas station near my house (across the street from the arlington heights post office) has a full service car wash.

I could go on.

I went to Portland last year, and the one thing that truly annoyed me was that you can't pump your gas, you need to have it done by a gas station attendent. This became a huge problem because I had a departing red eye flight, and had to fill up the rental car that I was returning. Since you can't pump your own gas, most gas stations are not open overnight since they don't want to pay a guy to pump gas during the middle of the night when business is slow. I had to drive around for about 30 minutes before I found an open gas station. This was some bullshit...
