Scot Feldman is just 30 years old. The Cubs brass are saying he will not be a viable piece when the Cubs become good?
I think there are more fans like me out there than the "I get the rebuild" types on here. This year is a good one to bring up some rooks and see what they have. The Cubs are in the same division with 3 of the best teams, I get it. My question is are the Cubs going to plan out a 3rd year of the same shit?
Like I said before, why is Theo's rookies any better or worse than the rest of baseballs? These two seasons of "trying to suck" may go down as the darkest in Cubs history IF fans don't see some type of payoff by 2014.

Feldman wasn't good when this season started. He probably won't be good when this season ends. They sold high on a guy they probably expected little from.

I mentioned yesterday that the Garza injury gave him an opportunity. I totally forgot about the Baker re-injury allowing him to even have a job.

Heard a snippet yesterday that the Cubs promised Feldman a rotation spot as part of him agreeing to only a 1 year contract. First time hearing that.

Fine. I'll bite.

They aren't, but what else do you expect the team to do? All a team can do is try to acquire as many highly rated prospects as possible and hope you have the right guys and development systems in place. They inherited a team with no all star quality talent on the MLB roster (save maybe Castro) and a bottom 5 farm system in baseball. A team with a shit ton of albatross contracts, a ballpark that's falling apart and a division that's is significantly better in both terms of MLB and farm systems.

This was and needed to be a complete top to bottom rebuild and they Cubs have easily a top 10 rated farm system in baseball. Sure not all prospects work out and that's why many a GM have lost their job. I much rather the team try this approach than trying to piecemeal a team together with overpriced free agents.

That era of baseball is dead, thankfully. Just ask Anaheim or Toronto how that's going for them.

Playoffs by 2014? Not a chance in hell. You realize that 3 of the top 5 or 6 teams in baseball are in the NL Central right now? 2015 is when I'll be expecting to see a playoff caliber team.

I don't mean this how it's going to come out, what was the point of your post? Just venting? That's cool, I do it on occasion and nothing wrong with it. If the 2015 season comes and we are still having the same sell all trade deadline talks, I'll be right there with you questioning Jed/Theo.

Unfortunately Cincy and St. Louis have hit on a ton of prospects and trades so they aren't going anywhere. Pittsburgh's decade of high draft picks finally paying off. I hate to say it, but the Cardinals are probably the best run team in baseball the past 5-10 years.

One issue I think people forget, is that the Cubs don't have to wait on all of these prospects to hit the majors. Many of them will be used in trades for Major League talent. So while there is certainly inherent risk in acquiring 16 years olds, etc... these assets immediately bolster the minor league system. And when the minor league system becomes healthy, not only will you start to produce your own ML talent... but you can use the assets in trades for established players.

It just seems to me, too many people think the signing of the 16 year olds is pushing the "win" date back even further. It's not.

Yes,I vent a lot about the Cubs. Yeah,St. Louis is incredible. Guys you never heard of pitching,fielding and hitting great every year. That would be a model farm system the Cubs are trying to emulate.

Exactly. Cubs didn't even have prospects they could credibly overhype, flip for a Cabrera/Sabathia/Halladay and then have them bust out.
