He's number two for mlb.com. But you are correct, these rankings are suspect at best.

Not what new GM Rick Hahn signed up for. Right now, he's paying the price for questionable FA signings and trades that Ken Williams made and haven't panned out.

Since Hahn was the assistant GM, I'm pretty sure this is exactly what he signed up for.

He'd like to trade the dead wood & the bad contracts on this White Sox roster. He's in for a surprise come July 31st and those stiffs are still here.

Being the GM, I wouldn't think he'd be surprised by his roster.

Well, it doesn't help that Peavy, Crain & Konerko are now on the DL.

Wait a second, was Baseball America like, "Well...we thought this Zapata kid was real good until the Sox signed him. They're never right about anything, so let's move him down, boys!"

Next week he'll probably be rated #50 in that class.

WTF?

That's why I have to laugh when guys- especially bernstein- talk about how the Sox minor league system is 30th or 29th or whatever. To me, every minor league system is exactly the same- a bunch of guys who aren't playing in the big leagues.

Yeah, I don't know how reliable the ratings are, either. The White Sox used to have a very highly regarded minor league system because they were fantastic at "selling" their talent to writers and scouts. Their ranking seemed entirely based on PR. Remember Jeriome Reid and Aaron Poreda? They never amounted to anything, and they're just the tip of the iceberg as far as overhyped past Sox prospects go.

But it's not the ranking of the minor league system that concerns me. It's the lack of performance in the minor leagues by many of the team's recent top draft picks. That wouldn't seem to bode well for the future, although a lot of these guys are still young--as Keyser will likely remind us.

While I agree to some extent, I do think there's something to the fact that the White Sox current farm system is pretty drained, they have also hurt their own rankings by having a few of their top picks reach the majors quickly. It can't help their rankings when their top picks in 2 of the last 4 or so drafts are already in the majors, and for Sale and Beckham, now for 2+ years.

When is Hahn going to change the locks on his office to keep kenny out. His athlete fetish is out of control. Someone needs to burn the image of vogelbach into KW's retinas.

Not much of a return, not even 100% salary relief. You would think they could do better then this for an above average experienced LH relief pitcher...

Not a good sign at all. That guy will never sniff the big leagues.

Those are some excellent thoughts on your newly acquired player. Keep up the good analysis. If you ever get around to reading the scouting reports on this guy you might just see that he does in fact have the ATHLETE, FOOTBALL PLAYER, NEEDS TO LEARN HOW TO BE A BASEBALL PLAYER labels. He has had moderate success at the low levels of the minors but that doesn't change the fact that this is the type of player KW has a hard on for. Hahn better love him because he has to added to the 40 man this off season or be unprotected in the rule 5 draft.

Oh, they have PLENTY of room on the roster. Don't worry about that.

The White Sox have been "extremely disappointed" with offers for Alex Rios thus far. Bowden feels that offers will improve as the deadline draws closer.

Rios had a terrible June at the plate. He certainly did the Sox zero favors as far as helping out a struggling offense or with trade offers.

well, let's see. Fangraphs value: $9.1MM. Salary $12MM. Nope, you're not going to get anything for him.

Only if the Sox pay most of the salary. No way the Pirates can take on the Rios contract

Sox 'Upset' at the poor offers they are getting for Rios.

I thought Kenny was not around these days?

Never seen an organization get more upset at everyone, from umps to analysts to writers to even fans.

DeAza's pretty much the same guy as Rios at 1/12 the cost. Maybe the Pirates will take him.

I don't want Rios traded but if they can get out from under Alexei's contract it's a deal they have to make. If Pittsburgh would also take De Aza as a 5th outfielder throw in I'd happily drive alll three to the airport. Hell I'd even pay for their airfare.
