His best year was 2009 for the Braves who were certainly in contention and won 86 games

Kind of like how Vazquez's best numbers came when he was pitching either early in the season or for a team not in contention.

What are you trying to say, Frank? That's exactly the kind of guy Vazquez was. Sort of like "Losing Pitcher" John Danks. The difference is, I don't want to run Danks out of town. I realize that he has value and contending teams need guys like him. I just wouldn't have given him money like he was the key man in my rotation. The Sox never did that with Vazquez. He was brought in to be a 4/5 guy and that's what he was and he did it well.

It really had to pain your ass that Vazquez got the fuck out of dodge and went on to have arguably his best overall season (even tho us Expos fans knew it was 2001 up until Ryan Dempster cracked his skull) in Hotlanta. Or wait, sorry, Hottlanta: it earned an extra T once it enticed Evanston's very own Jason George Goff to come on down and join the party kicked off by such industry heavyweights as Tyler Perry and Usher.

If I had one game to win and had to choose between Danks or Javy to take the bump, I would choose Danks 10 times out of 10.

And you'd lose 4-3.

Danks winning the Blackout Game might be the most credit one guy has gotten out of one start since Kerry Wood's 20K

He's been living on that forever. What people forget is that he faced a guy who was a bigger loser than he was and that guy 4-hit the Sox on the road. In Minnesota they probably talk about how Nick Blackburn pitched well enough to win but just didn't get any damn run support.

"losing pitcher" Nick Blackburn.

Danks was also the only pitcher to get a win in the ALDS that year.

Yeah, he was sharp right there at the end. Good for him. It ended up landing him an undeserved contract. Danks is a useful pitcher. Just like Javy Vazquez. It's when you think he's more than that that you get into trouble.

The White Sox have promoted 2B Micah Johnson to High A Winston-Salem. They also promoted RHP Jake Petricka and 1B Andy Wilkins to Triple A Charlotte.

So far, 1st rounder Tim Anderson has made 9 errors in 15 games. Hitting .302, but 4/20 BB/K ratio.

Micah Johnson is 22. Seems kind of old for High A ball, no?

Petricka is 25 and Wilkins is 24.

He's still a little on the high side. If he's going to be considered a top prospect he definitely can't afford to have any setbacks in High A. He needs to hit his way through this league and start next season in Double A.

It's interesting in his first game they played Johnson at 2B and moved Joey DeMichele to SS. I figured they would move one to the outfield.

BA preseason top 5
1. Hawkins .188 107K in 213 AB in A+, 15 HR
2. Thompson .237 9HR 94K in 337AB in AA
3. Sanchez .598 OPS in AAA (only 21 though!!)
4. E Johnson 9-2 2.24 92K in 100IP mostly AA
5. Walker .206 in A+, waste of time

But we have Michah Johnson age 22 .921OPS, mostly low A, 65 SB, but 21 CS. sort of a Willie Harris guy with no real position.

White Sox prospect Scott Snodgress came within two outs of a no-hitter for Double-A Birmingham on Monday night.

In a 7-0 win over Chattanooga, Snodgress allowed a one-out single in the ninth to the Lookouts' Matt Wallach on an 0-1 count.

Removed from the game after the hit, the No. 6 White Sox prospect, according to MLB.com, improved to 10-7 on the season with a 4.09 ERA. He also struck out five and walked three.

"It was an incredible feeling," Snodgress said to MiLB.com. "I wish that I could have finished it, but I guess that's how it goes."

He'd previously thrown six innings of a combined no-hitter for Rookie-level Casper on Aug. 18, 2011, three months after he was drafted out of Stanford University in the fifth round.

In three starts this month, the 23-year-old lefty has allowed one run over 21 1/3 innings.

The 5 K's bring him up to 69 on the year. In 110 innings.

He was actually the number 6 White Sox Prospect according to BA's preseason list and he was number 5 on BP's list.

Marcus Semien, SS at AA Birm has put together a nice year. .837 OPS and supposedly has a good glove.

Triple A RHP Andre Rienzo threw a 7 inning no hitter last night. He walked 4 and struck out 11 but he's not on anyone's top 100 lists either so he still sucks.

With a little luck, he could be the next Dylan Axelrod. Then again Axelrod had much better AAA numbers.

So the Sox reach down into their shitty minor league system for the second year in a row and pull out a pitcher who produces.

Anybody watching? Listening to Tom Hamilton and he's saying John Hirschbeck is pissing off the hitters with his zone today. True?
