Loved that guy. Him and Beck were the only arms on that 98 team that could get anybody out. Down the stretch of that season he would start a game, then come out of the pen a day or two later. Dude had a rubber arm.

Yup. I think it was against the Astros late in 98 when he went like 8 innings and came on in relief the next game. Crazy stuff. I seem to remember him being on the team when they started out 0-14. Lost some games he should have won and actually seemed to be one of the few guys still trying in a completely lost season.

Are you kiddies too young to remember Dave Kingman?

I'm sure you were just asking and not including Kong in this discussion.

From what I've heard, an absolute dick to the press.

But check out his stats as a Cub. His year in 79 was awesome. And the Lasorda rant alone justified Kingman as a Cub.

I guess it depends upon the reason you "hate" a player. I agree with SS regarding Kingman but I think Barry Foote qualifies by any measure.

Some of these entries I can't believe I'm reading.

Here's two that haven't been mentioned.

1.) Jacque Jones - I actually don't agree with this one, but this guy was shit on by the Cubs faithful pretty much since day one. He replaced Sammy Sosa. He got off to a horrendous 0 for 11 something start. Broke out of it with a 3-run HR I believe against the Cardinals on a Sunday night. Idiot Cubs fans were happy to have him then. Went back to getting shit on. Didn't produce as well as fans had hoped. Also had some funky injury that Dusty Baker wanted to keep secret as was the way of "the Cub" back then. Aramis Ramirez actually broke the story after the season that Jacque's arm had been f'ed up all year.

2.) Les Lancaster - For completely pooping your pants in 1989.

I forgot about Byrd. He was fucking worthless and a dick as well. I can't believe he is trade material this year.

Kal Daniels. Cubs brought him in for a late season push and he took 3 days to report. Then he couldn't hit or run the bases and basically acted like he was doing everyone a favor by sticking around for a game or two.
And even though he wasn't around long, I hated Ian Stewart from day one. He was terrible.

Technically, Jacque Jones didn't replace Sosa; Jeromy Burnitz did. Ew. Anyway, Jacque probably seemed worse than he was because of the way Dusty enabled him.

What I'll remember about Derrek Lee, second to his 2005 season, was the time Obama made some meatball comment about how Cubs fans suck and Sox fans are the real baseball fans, and Lee was like "yeah, he's basically right, Cubs fans do suck." There was another incident like that before Obama ran his mouth. I don't like to be all "DERP DEY PAY YER SALARY," and I realize there's a time and place for snapping at the fans, but not when you're one of the most embraced players on a team that more often than not during his time here was pretty good. He earned no right to shit on the fanbase the way he did.

I think it might be easier to start a "likable Cubs" thread.

I was annoyed by that Lee comment and attitude but the memory for me will be the crazy season and especially firts half he had in 05

Thru 82 games he was hitting .378 with 27 Homeruns and 72 RBI
