i'm agreeing with RFDC. many of the shows in the 00's started off great but had lousy endings or were canceled. a lot of the shows from the 70's he listed had strong runs throughout. and they were on major networks at a time when watching TV was a real event.

...and you forgot saturday night live. :)

And for the record I did not forget SNL. I just wasn't sure about including it since it seems like a show that is not so much associated with a time period but overlaps so many. But it definitely adds some weight to the 1970s.

The 80s are a strong decade and a solid #2. But they are no 70s.

Yesterday I made a solid #2 that would've choked an elephant.

Anyway, back on topic, The 3 strongest decades have got to be the 70s, 80s & 00s. The 90s were carried by a few shows, many of them on the tail end of the decade. The 50s & 60s shows seem pretty dated by now.

If we took the strongest shows of each decade & compared them, then we'd get a better picture. Ralph already made a solid list for the 70s.

understood, just giving you shit. :) it's fair to say that SNL could be included in both 70's and 80's becase of the late 80's into early 90's cast. but it's fair to say that SNL "belongs" to the 70's as well, i think.

the 70's were a great decade for film too. possibly the last great decade.

Not to derail, but the 70s were probably the best post-WWII decade for movies. I'd consider the 80s great. I'm not a fan of many 50s-60s movies. The 90s had some good ones, but then everything became hit or miss after that.

As for TV, I think I might go w/ Ralph on this.

Yes, Michelle, I'm actually agreeing w/ Ralph on something. While the 80s were solid top to bottom, the 70s really brought the big guns w/ All in the Family, M*A*S*H, & many more.

80s. But I'm biased because I have a special fondness for most of that decade. But there were good shows in the 70s, 90s, and 00s as well.
