My guess is we break 80 by tomorrow morning. Stay hot Chicago!!

1 dead, 6 wounded in South Side shootings
5 shot in landlord-tenant dispute in Roseland

9:51 p.m. CDT, July 7, 2013

One man was killed and six other people wounded in two South Side shootings today, authorities said.

In the latest incident, five people were shot in the 11300 block of South Forest Avenue in Roseland about 8:10 p.m. in what was believed to be a landlord-tenant dispute, officials said.

The attacks today bring to at least 74 the number of people shot since Wednesday afternoon in Chicago, with 12 of those victims killed.

Four people were transported from the Forest Avenue shooting by Chicago Fire Department ambulances in serious-to-critical condition, two to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and two to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Fire Department spokesman Chief Juan Hernandez said. A fifth person was taken to Roseland Hospital in good-to-fair condition, Hernandez said. Two of the victims were men, both age 30, he said.

One man was in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds, while the three other men were in good condition, two with shoulder wounds and one with a graze wound to the leg, Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. A woman who was shot in the neck had her condition stabilized, O'Brien said.

Police had one person in custody in connection with the shooting.
A man who said he is a relative of the woman shot said she was taken to Christ Medical Center and he believed she had a superficial wound to the neck. The shooting stemmed from a dispute with the woman's landlord, said the man, who said he witnessed the shooting.

Other relatives were having an argument with the landlord, when the landlord pulled out a gun, and the female relative, who lives where the shooting took place, showed up, the man said.

"Next thing you know, it was a big old argument," he said. "I'm trying to quiet things down, but it seemed like it wasn't working. So (the landlord) just up and just start shooting."

The man said it was not the first time that police had been called to the apartment building because of an argument involving the landlord and the woman.

"He had words with her the other day," the man said. "Police told him just, you know, leave everything alone, just leave it alone."

Earlier, in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, officers responded to a report of a person shot about 3:30 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said.

One man, age 19, who had been shot in the back, died following the shooting, and another man, age 22, who had been shot in the arm and chest, was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stable, Police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said.

The 19-year-old, whose name was not being released, was declared dead on the scene at 3:53 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The other person was transported initially in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The two men were sitting in a car in the 4700 block of South Ashland Avenue when a man or boy came up to the car and started shooting at them, O'Brien said.

The 22-year-old got out of the car and tried to get away, while the driver of the car, who had not been shot, began driving east on 47th Street, stopping at the 600 block of West 47th, O'Brien said.

No one was in custody, O'Brien said.

74 shootings & 12 murders in just 5 days? Do any of you guys have a better solution than putting armed police officers/national guard/military bad asses on every street corner? Maybe no one cares because these shooting take place in bad areas on the South side?

The concealed carry law that will even allow guns in bars will prevent this as soon as they override Governor Quinn's line-item veto.

You say this alot. I just want to make sure you would be OK with paying at least 40% in taxes to cover this. Are you?

Why would Scorehead care about Chicago taxes?

It wouldn't be just Chicago. It would be a State or even a Federal income tax witholding.

Well, that's not gonna happen. Not many people outside those neighborhoods give a damn.

But Scorekirk seems to have a solution! I would just like to know what his solution is to pay for all of those guards.

I know this wont be a popular thought but what how many of these shootings ( and shootings on a daily basis) do you think would be prevented on a daily basis if they cops were allowed to stop and frisk? and yes I understand about the the whole rights issues it carries with it.

I don't think most cops would want to be stopping and frisking. Easier to wait for somebody to get shot, write the report, and not get your own self shot.

Obviously everyone will have a different opinion on it. I do know that if I lived where this shit was happening on a nightly and daily basis and I cant even let my kids go outside to a park or play in front of the house because shootings are so common, I would welcome most anything that would keep these assholes from being as bold as they are .

I wouldn't want a military state, but I'm sure 15 k troops could wouldn't be missed from Germany or Iraq or Afghanistan. They are already paying them now.

How many of these cowardly fucks that shot someone this week have no business being paroled? Probably more than half. If you commit a gun crime you should serve a real sentence .

More jails is a reasonable solution. Yes, some nicer jails, jails that COST the criminal to stay in. Call it a hotel, I dont care, but something that the state will make money on and not cost us to operate.

Those who then committed non violent crimes have the option of buying there way into these facilities.

You can have a mid level facility as well, with the same concept for firearm violators.

None of this reduces a sentence, it really would probably extend sentences as paroles would not be granted due to over crowding.

This could then free up more space for violent crime offenders to serve longer sentences more appropriate for crimes.

Someone else can work on the rehab portion, I am concerned of putting them away.

Get all the gangs to come to a summit. (It can't hurt) Start a turn in the guns program statewide and don't stop it.

40%? 40% of what? Besides, I don't live in the city of Chicago. I'm pretty sure this could be accomplished by redeploying existing cops & military personnel who are being underutilized or wasting time in foreign countries trying to bring democracy & civilization to countries who will never ever be civilized or democratic.
As I have said many many times, we need to spend more time on solving our countries problems & less time trying to solve everyone else's problems.

It's scary, that's for sure. I live just a few blocks from where a lot of these shootings occur. I'm lucky that I'm in plain view of the police station, so my immediate block is ok.
