Q says he didn't keep the Bickell/Toews/Kane line together at the start of this series bc of the knee injury Bicks had. Was trying to keep his ice time down. Now I feel like a jack ass for bitching about his ice time and splitting the lines up.

Q with two championships is now ahead of Ditka and Ozzie for the Mt Rushmore thing, IMO. Both of those guys, especially Ditka were reasons why their teams struggled more than they should have.

There are things that happen behind the scenes in the NHL that aren't fully explained to the press & fans because teams aren't required to disclose injuries like in the NFL. Coaches make decision & moves knowing what they know about their team, players & injuries, while dumb ass knee jerk fans scream about the coach being a retard & how he should be fired.
I'll say this again; Joel Quenneville has coached for 16 seasons in the NHL without 1 single losing season. He now has 3 Stanley Cup championships on his resume, 2 as Hawks head coach & 1 as an assistant on the Avalanche, & he has had 5 teams with more than 100 points, & 13 teams with more than 90 points.
Q is the best head coach in Hawks history & 3rd best in Chicago sports history.

The Bulls should have fired Phil Jackson!

Solid. I would say Q's two Cups in 4 yrs makes him the best Blackhawks coach, although I'm not familiar with any other coaches pre-1980s

Quenneville is the best Hawks coach ever and for better (his consistently great results) or worse (his consistent hiring of bumbling toadies), he's going to be here for quite a while.

Not quite, but the Hawks had Yanic Perreault on the roster for Toews's rookie year for more or less this reason.

Hawks just signed Perreault to be a "player development coach," or, in other words, an organization-wide faceoff consultant. Fist-bump, ghost of t-dub.

I was stoked when I heard this news! Now if we can find a power play consultant!

Blackhawks to reward Quenneville with contract extension

By Chris Kuc Tribune reporter

Twice in the last four seasons the Blackhawks have had a parade through the streets of Chicago to celebrate Stanley Cup championships with millions of fans.

Joel Quenneville, the coach who guided the Hawks to those titles, has been rewarded for those successes with a contract extension. It will be announced Friday during a “major team announcement” before the opening of the Blackhawks Convention according to a source who confirmed the new deal will run beyond the current one set to expire after the 2013-14 season.

In five seasons with the Hawks, Quenneville has compiled a 222-106-44 record in 372 regular-season games and hoisted the Cup twice. The first championship came in 2010 and ended a 49-year Cup drought for the Original Six organization and was followed by another title in ’13 after the Hawks dispatched the Bruins in six games.

“This past season there were so many good things that transpired and the beginning and the endings were special,” Quenneville said earlier this month. “Sharing it with the group here and the organization and the city of Chicago has been a lot of fun. … 2010, 2013, you can toss a coin and say which one was more enjoyable because they were both rewarding.”

During the Hawks’ Prospect Camp in mid-July, Hawks general manager Stan Bowman indicated he wanted to extend Quenneville’s contract before training camp opened for the 2013-14 season.

“It’s always good to get those things done in the summertime and sort of clear the deck to focus on hockey starting in the fall,” Bowman said July 12.

On Friday, the official announcement of Quenneville’s extension likely will complete all the major offseason moves for Bowman and the Hawks.

It’s quite a turnaround for Quenneville and Bowman after the Hawks had suffered first-round postseason departures before securing the Cup a month ago in Boston. Another source said Quenneville had been on the hot seat following the early exits in the playoffs before the now two-time nominee for the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL’s top coach returned in ’13.

With Quenneville’s steady hand and Bowman’s re-configuring of the roster, the Hawks roared through the regular season — setting an NHL record by starting the lockout-shortened campaign without a regulation defeat in their first 24 games — and finished 36-7-5. In the playoffs, they methodically eliminated the Wild, Red Wings, Kings and Bruins to win the franchise’s fifth championship.

“It’s a good combination, (Stan) and Joel,” Hawks senior advisor Scotty Bowman said recently. “They both recognize they each have their jobs to do and they mesh when they have to. One is the coach and has his staff and the (other) is managing. They work together and if there’s anything that has to be decided on players, they do that.”

After a lengthy playing career, Quenneville moved into the coaching ranks and in 16 seasons behind the bench, including seven with the Blues and three with the Avalanche before landing with the Hawks on Oct. 16, 2008, has 660 wins—most among active coaches.

“We certainly like being here,” Quenneville said July 12. “We’ve liked our time here in Chicago. It has been a lot of thrills, a lot of excitement. We like everything surrounding the quality of life and being part of the sporting situation here in town. We love the organization. There are a lot of positives in all aspects of being here.”

He really is an expert at doing less with more. I'm glad we always were witness to Bollig's three minutes of ice time. You can't tell me Regin or Brookbank couldn't put in a good 10 minutes. What a failure of a season

What's your aversion to the only team in town that doesn't suck.

To be honest,I don't know. I loved hockey as a kid. A lot of it is maybe I don't know who is who anymore. That guy Saad looked pretty good tonight,Sharp & Hossa towards the end tried to make some plays. It was exciting.

Yeah Saad took a pretty big step forward in these playoffs. Hopefully he can be Hossa's replacement or close to it.

Reading back through this thread is pretty comical.

Seems Spanky has changed his tune on Crawford. He thought he sucked at the beginning of this thread.

And then there is this gem:

Scorehead wrote:
Patrick Kane is 1 year away from being on the trading block. I love watching him skate, & he is a good assist Man, but 10 goals just isn't enough. He is 1 year away from being a bust.

What an idiot.

Perhaps you weren't a fan or paying much attention then, but Kane went through a slump period when there was a lot of talk about his lifestyle affecting his play. 10 goals wasn't good enough & the Hawks agreed. Kaner had a lousy year & many people talked about him being at the crossroads of his career, then the Hawks brass sat him down & gave him a talking too, & thankfully the kid listened & took it to heart & now he is the most clutch player in the NHL. I'm glad he turned things around.

With regards to Crawford, he needs to be better. He had some awful games -vs- the Kings.

But the Hawks are fine going forward.

He has to have at least 13 years left on that contract, so you're probably right.
