What the fuck was Garza doing disrupting the game like that? Why not just stay out in the pen until the bottom of the 1st?

What happened?

1 out in the top of the first, and Garza, the pitching coach, and somebody else in Cubs garb (couldn't tell if it was a catcher, coach, or another pitcher) are walking across the outfield from the right field pen, so the game stops until they get to the dugout.

There was a rain delay to start the game so I'm sure that threw off the schedules a little bit, but this isn't spring training. No reason to disrupt the game like that.

Still a dick move on Garza's part. Santiago had the same circumstances warming up. And yes I would be saying the same thing if a Sox pitcher did this.

Couldn't he have just stayed in the pen and continued "getting loose" until the end of the Top of the 1st? They're playing in an AL park, so he doesn't have to worry about his place coming up in the batting order.

This is the 2nd time the Cubs have had issues with an opposing team's scheduling of pre-game events. The pitchers stayed out to do their conditioning during another team's batting practice earlier this year enraging their owner or someone from the front office.

I don't know what the common procedure is for keeping other teams informed of delay times and allowing pitchers the amount of time they request to get ready. The Sox front office may very well have been dicks about this as well but that was all done in private. Garza made sure the entire baseball audience was aware of his displeasure. No one got drilled for it though so the Sox couldn't have been too offended by it.

I guess not, because he is a dick.

I don't know how petty or how big of an issue this would be for some teams, but is it possible that another GM saw/heard about this and won't trade for the guy because of it?

I would find that highly unlikely

He's not a dick. It was a dick move, but that doesnt mean he's a dick. You've made dick moves, you're not a dick.

I agree. It was stupid. He could have at least waited for an out or hit. Didn't he walk in the middle of an at-bat?
