I've been telling myself this since last week but refuse to actually say it to friends because I know when I do they'll go on a 13 game skid.

Looks like everyone's too afraid to say it. The Cubs will grab one of the wild card spots this year. NL Central is weak even without the 'Stros.
Garza-Sammie-Jackson trio will each have 10+ wins.

Rizzo-Soriano-Castro will be the N.L.'s best 3-4-5 combo.

This is the year!

Read it wrong, thought you said "this team isn't that bad". Obviously they're far away. They've been watchable as of late though.

Randon Cubs Thoughts - Here's my thing on this team right now. They should be worse than what they are right now. I've been happy with the team this year. They are a long ways a way. However this team is improving, albeit slowly. I've really enjoyed watching this season and kind of roll my eyes while everyone else shits on them. They're 9 games under .500. What the hell else did anyone expect? I expected 18 or more games under .500 at this point. They've got some nice pieces. I'm also one not ready to give up on a 23-year-old Starlin Castro like a lot of people are. We still have time to let these young guys figure it out a bit.

I cannot believe they are only 9 games under. And I heard Garza post-game say the Cubs had 27 blown saves? Talk about the "what-if" team.

I've certainly found it easier to watch this year. Been to the same amount of games as 2012, making me a fan. It's difficult to understand overreaction on a daily basis. But I don't think that way about anything.

8 games under!!! They are better at this point than I thought they would be this year especially with Houston gone from the division.

yeah,in spite he fact that Castro and Rizzo are both under .240. Good for them. Maybe if they pick up a few solid vets (like Jeff Keppinger) instead of unloading they can make a run!

Now THAT's Sarcasm!

Cubs should still, naturally, flip Garza / Soriano / Schierholtz / DeJesus / Gregg for whatever best prospects they can...but it is enjoyable to be competitive, at least temporarily.

Soriano is sure driving up his worth at the perfect time. Garza too, I guess.

This must all be part of Theo's plan.

This perfectly sums up my feelings on the Cubs right now as well.

I have no idea why some people are freaking out about Castro. What good player in the history of baseball has not had stretches (sometimes even seasons) of struggling?

I enjoy watching these guys play. They play hard and they seem to be really having fun. Sveum as a manager is even growing on me. There are still situations that I scratch my head at, but that would be the case no matter who the manager is.

Probably Starlin's best game of the season. Joe Blanton will do that, but still nice to see

Starlin had a good first month of the season...I'm sure he had some good overall games then. Cannot think of a specific one though.

I keep thinking of Mike Caruso, the guy from the Sox at SS.

Rick Sutcliffe is shaking his head in disgust right now.
