Played Lawsonia Woodlands with my dad and fiancee yesterday as advertised. Had my usual round, 10 over on 4 holes and 5 over the other 14 combined for an 87. Didn't play that well, hitting only 35% fairways and 22 % GIR, but had 29 total putts. Was lights out inside 10 feet. Chipped one in which always helps the putting stat. But, playing with my fiancee who is a 2 month beginner and my dad who plays once every couple years and is still using my grandfather prisimun woods is quite an adventure. A solid 5 hour round and we were alone on the course.

Played today at the Links course, trying to avenge my 93 from Memorial Day weekend. Got a nice quadruple bogey on #1 which is always fun, ended up with a weird 91. Played much better than yesterday, hit 53% fairways and 50% GIR, but had 41 total putts including 3 putts on 5 of the first 6 holes. The greens out there are the most difficult I've ever seen. Every one is elevated and is basically an island with 10 to 20 foot drops straight off the edge, often times surrounded by bunkers as well. They are also rock hard and have 3 tiers with ledges as high as 6 feet above the level below.

I'm tempted to go back out there this weekend to see if I can break 90, but don't want to play weekend rates for what is quickly becoming one of the most overrated courses in the USA. Used to be a hidden gem, now its poorly maintained. Bare spots on a few greens, overflowing garbage cans on every tee box, deserted halfway houses on both courses. Not the same place it used to be, that's for sure. That said, the Links course will still give you one of the tougher tests of golf you're ever gonna play.

Hitting up a course I never played before tomorrow, 2 North Oaks or something like that.

Edited to say 90 not 80

Shot 93 at Coyote Creek...a nice Bruce Bourland course outside of Peoria.

Shot 45-48. The 48 included 4 pars out of 9 holes. Had an 8 followed up by a 3. Gave away a lot of strokes today. 3 3 putt bogeys. I usually don't get upset on the course but today I was a little pissed off.

But we were the 2nd group off today which was awesome. The 10:30 AM 1st beer of the day tasted pretty damn good.

Got out bright and early yesterday to beat the masses. Plans changed a bit and I played a short, tough
little course that I will be playing next week in the county open one of the rounds. Ended up carding a 73
with a double bogey. Hit the ball pretty solidly but didn't make any putts outside the two that went in for
birdies. Hit a lot of irons off tees which is necessary on this course. Really a good test of game management
and self restraint. Shot even par on the front and used the driver twice. I really wish I would have known
better than to try to smash the driver and try to kill every iron shot when I was younger. Thinking my way
around the course is much more enjoyable hitting 3 wood or irons off tees and half irons into greens
with some control putting myself on correct sides of greens and below cup positions at times. Still a lot of
work to do as I likely threw away 3 or 4 strokes along the way but was happy with the ball striking. I'll
find out in a week whether or not any of this work is paying off.

Played Sanctuary on the 3rd, and although its a bitch of a course I cannot blame the 98 score on anything but bad shots by me. Its a very tight course and if you miss the fairways your balls is lost in fescue, but its not overly long and there are several scorable holes. The first 10 holes was a nightmare. Outside of a birdie on the Par 3 fourth hole, I played like absolute crap with every club except my driver. I think I had a 52 or something on the front 9, doubled the 10th hole, then had a stretch of 3 pars and 3 bogeys which is pretty typical for me. Was happy to keep it under 100 after that terrible start.

$28 for 18 holes w/cart at Sanctuary all season long. If any if you have the chance to play that course, especially on a Weds, take advantage of it. The rough sucks, but the greens and fairways were in excellent shape.

GOod luck, but don't rush it Furious. Last St Pats day my roommate at the time broke his wrist and he said he didn't feel 100% until the start of this golf season. He says he still hurts a little bit if he really happens to chunk a shot.

Solid deal on Izod flat-front cargo shorts. $18 shipped. Lots of sizes/colors. I swear by these and just picked up a couple more pairs.

Totally breathable and don't look like typical cargo shorts - a little more dressy. Run true to size.

Played Two Oaks North, 6500 from the tips and not much trouble anywhere. Knew I was gonna play well and after Lawsonia this place was gonna feel like mini golf. I was right. 38-39 for a career best 77! First time under 80 in 7 years and breaks my previous best of 78.

Granted, the course has a 70.8/123 rating and slope from the tips, but even still I'm quite happy about it. No birdies, but nothing worse than a bogey all day. Hit two flagsticks while chipping. Knew something was up when I drained consecutive 40 foot chips on the putting green prior to the round. Hit 10/14 fairways. 9/18 GIR. Parred every par 3, two of which were over 200 yards.

Played with one of the most annoying people I've ever been paired up with. 2 guys, here for a weekend Boy Scout retreat with their kids, snuck out for their yearly round of golf. The one guy wouldn't stop talking about the Boy Scouts and how great it was. I literally had to tell him to stop talking about the fucking boy scouts and it was only the 2nd hole! By hole 7 I had one man intervention where I told him that he was no longer allowed to mention the scouts for the rest of the day, I was over it. He was a nice guy, but so annoying. His friend was nice, but the worst golfer I've ever seen. Yet insisted on playing from the tips. After my drive I'd have to watch him take 5 strokes before getting to my ball. And of course his buddy who wasn't much better had to keep throwing him balls to re-do shots and would get out of the cart to give him a lesson. Thankfully it was a parking lot out there so we weren't going anywhere anyway or else I would've lost it.

Really tempted to go out to Lawsonia again tomorrow and see if I can finally break 90 on the Links course.

Yeah Frank, I think mine was a severe soft tissue injury, but I'm still going to wait a few weeks before I try to play a round. I chunked a few shots w/ zero pain, which is nice.

Congrats on the low round, shakes! Just don't incur an upper body injury soon after, like I did. ;)

Played Shepherds Crook yesterday morning and just had a feeling from the get go
things weren't going to go as smoothly as they had the 4th. Kept with my theme
of hitting irons off the tee when it made sense and while I was hitting fairways I
was missing greens and not getting up and down. My putter was ice cold. Managed
to get in with an 82 but had 36 putts including three 3-putts on the back nine. My
scrambling was also horrendous only getting up and in around the green 2 of 8 times.

Shot 85 at Coyote Run. 40 on the front, which should have been much much lower. Started out with a 6 and a 5, then rattled off probably the best stretch of golf I have ever played with birdie, par, par, par, par birdie. Sitting on the 9th tee with a 32, and I put up an 8. Ouch. The next 4-5 holes were kinda rough, but I got it together at the end of the round with 2 pars and 2 bogeys. My second best score ever, but still felt like I should have shot a lot better. Did a replay for $20 and ended up with 87. Was pretty happy overall, but as I said should be better! I'll break 80 one of these days...

Back from my week in Hilton Head. Finished up the week with an 84 from the blues(one up from tournament tees) at Harbour Town. Long game good, putting good, everything else real good or real bad. Dye really tricked up the back 9. The 18th is just a beast. Happy to walk away with only a bogey.

In my quest to discover some new courses around Green Lake I stumbled upon a real joke of a course. White Lake Country Club. Since it only cost $20 on golfnow I had a feeling it would be terrible, but to get out there and see the grass was a inch thick in the fairways and on the tee boxes was still pretty shocking. Never seen tee boxes like that. PLayed as a single at 7:30 and was done in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Passed through a few groups of hacks. One twosome I passed, it took them a combined 13 strokes to get out of range of my drive. Ended up with an 83 and probably shouldn't have even attempted a putt that days since I knew that putting on those shag carpets were going to make me a worse putter.

Next day I played Waushara Country Club. Not bad. Elevation changes on every hole, but way too many blind shots. Didn't help that my sky caddie was only registering distance to the green on that course so I had no advance knowledge of hazards or bunkers on about 80% of the holes. Despite that I played great. Carded a 86 because I had 39 putts. Didn't hit a single putt outside of 4 feet the entire day. the way I was striking the ball if I could putt at all I would've easily broke 80. Had 2 shots on par 3s that landed 3 feet from the cup, one with a 9 iron and one with a 4 iron from about 190 yards. Off the tee I was fading the ball on command and I even had a legit draw on one tee shot and it was on purpose lol.

Game is really coming around, sucks that I have about 2 rounds left in me this month before going to Israel.

Played there a couple times on a family vacation back in the early 90s. Would love to go back and do it again. What were the rates?

$200, which included cart, range balls, and a forecaddie. It's cartpath only though, so the cart doesn't really save time. The other two courses on the property are $70, one is also designed by Pete Dye.

Feeling a little burned out on playing golf recently. Have managed to get the handicap index down to 9.8, but might need to take a break for a bit.

12:52 tee time to kick off County Open tomorrow afternoon and 8:52 the next morning. 3rd round is all
dependent on score and then I believe reflighted to Championship, A and B flights. I haven't played in an
individual competitive tournament for a couple of years and I swear the first tee is the worst kind of anxiety.
Should be a lot of good players entered, I think there are 62 total if my count was right.

Initial goals are to make the championship flight and shoot 3 rounds in the 70s which should be pretty tough
but a reachable goal if I play smart I think. Pretty sure under par will win this so while capable of doing that
on a perfect day I just would like to play solid and see where the chips fall. A lot of local teaching pros are in it.

Played Coyote Run in Flossmoor last weekend, and will be playing there again Saturday and again on the 20th. I'm not crazy about playing the same course that often, but it won't cost me anything so I really can't complain about free golf no matter where it is. Would love to go out and put up an 80, but I'm just hoping to play as well as I can. No wasted shots, play smart, and as many 2 (or 1!) putts as possible. I'll break 80 one of these days, but if I can shoot say 87 or less these next 2 rounds I will be very pleased.

Friday and Sunday at Brighton Dale Golf Links and Saturday is at Petrifying Springs. That is the entirety of the
county golf system up here. It actually isn't bad though. Brighton Dale has a White 18 and Blue 18 that are
nicely kept and challenging each in their own way. Pets which is here in town is short but a lot of elevation changes
and tight little golf holes. If I remember I will post how the day went but may not update it until Sunday or Monday.
Like I mentioned, I would be happy to just play solid and not embarass myself. The last time I played in this a
few years back I shot myself out of any chance of a decent finish on the first day. Managed to finish in 2nd place
in the "A" flight after a couple nice recovery rounds.

Got out this afternoon and played Sunset Valley with a couple buddies. Played like crap, but I always do when I play wiht them since there's so much shit talking and screwing around. Shot an 89, but had a crazy finish. Last three holes were quadruple bogey, eagle, birdie. My first eagle since my hole in one in 1984! And it wasn't just an eagle, it was a tap in for eagle from 236 yards with a 3 wood, one foot past the cup. Earlier in the round I had a tap in for birdie from 90 yards with a gap wedge.

Even though I played like crap I was happy with my progress in working the ball left or right off the tee on command. I am legitimately drawing the ball off the tee for the first time in my life. Granted, only 3/9 found the fairway, but pretty much all of the misses were ones I left out to the right, but none of them were slicing, they were all just going straight down the path I started them on and staying there. Only one miss all day went left. I think getting a consistent miss will help a lot in terms of figuring out exactly where to start the ball.

Gonna play Bridges of Poplar Creek tomorrow as a single at 8:43, one spot still available on golfnow if anyone wants to join me.

Sunday I'm playing Pine Meadow (what up Tbone!) with 7 guys from my hockey team including our teammate who has stage 4 cancer in his lungs, brain and other places. Gonna be quite exciting cause he went to the doc today and for the first time the cancer is shrinking in every body part! So lots to celebrate Sunday, he can't drink, but I'm sure the rest of us will on his behalf. We're putting names in a hat and having 2 man scramble teams, should be a blast.

That will be my last round before I leave for Israel and then no golf for 2 weeks, not at all happy about that.

Shakes and T-bone, we have to get out and play Washington County. The course is in immaculate shape, made a 20 footer for birdie on the last hole to shoot 79. Not a very good ball striking round and I am still trying to figure how I played as good as I did. Maybe going to play Lawsonia tomorrow. Shakes have a great trip and let's get back on the course when you get back.

Shot 86 yesterday. Not too bad, but shoulda been better. My dumbass put 4 balls in the water, and I wasted a shot on par 4 because I was trying to hit a 4iron 300 yards instead of just taking a nice easy swing to get near the green. Had a couple of chips/pitches that were within 3' of the cup, and was absolutely on fire with the flat stick. Only 3 putted 1 green, everything else was 2 putts or less. 3 birdies including a 40 footer on a par 3 that was downhill and had a double break. Next hole was a par 5 and I birdied that too. Other than a par 3 course, I've never had back to back birdies. Really happy with the way the short game is coming around this season.

Just put a nice fat 100 on the board today. Could not get off the tee until hole 11....couldn't hit a green....etc. etc. I did somehow have a birdie today. Blind squirrel.

I can't remember the last time I hit the ball so poorly. 54-46. Very disappointing. I'm a hack but not as bad as I played today.

I'll enjoy watching the British next week.

This board needs a separate thread for "real scores" because the foot wedges and mulligans are running crazy in this thread. Just saying.

As hard as I worked to get my game sharpened up my tournament ended up being a pretty big
disappointment. It had been 3 years since I played in a tournament and I have to say it is a
different experience and feel than playing a relaxing round with your buddies. I learned a lot
about my golf game and what I need to work on but really should have scored better than I did.
I finished 81 - 83 - 85.

First round I had a double bogey, a triple bogey and a missed putt from 18 inches.

Second round I hit the ball as well as I have all year round. shot a 39 on the front with 4 three putt
greens. On number 10 I took a septuple bogey ( an 11 ). 315 yard par four that was really tight. I
was hitting the driver straight and over 300 all morning so I figured I would go for it. Hooked two out
of bounds, hit an iron in the fairway and then proceeded to hit a tree from the fairway and the ball went
O.B. again. I was a bit shell shocked but I had to laugh. I had the iron in my hand before switching to
the driver. BAD game management.

Third round. I just couldn't see to get anything going. Only hit one fairway all day long. Had a double
on the front after hooking an iron out of bounds. Pulled it together a bit and although I wasn't playing well
I was coming in ok. On #16 I have 100 yards to the green and a sand wedge in my hand. Out of nowhere I
shanked it straight right out of bounds and take a triple bogey.

It was a fun experience and even though I didn't meet any of my goals I think I will be a stronger player for
the experience.

I was wondering how you fared over the weekend, Tbone. Sorry to hear the play wasn't as good as you had hoped. I'm sure you will be better next time round.

This board needs a separate thread for "real scores" because the foot wedges and mulligans are running crazy in this thread. Just saying.

Who is this guy coming in here talking shit?

He just can't wrap his head around CSFMB'ers playing some decent golf here and there.
