IMU was banned before? What did he do?

Told BF his car was a hunk of shit.

Okay, so Seinfeld posts and car opinoins get a ban, overt racist trolling is welcome with open arms .... got it .... so noble ....

Okay so don't ban Steve. That is fine. I've been against these things my entire time here and posting or reading the board is a choice that we all make.

Admittedly, his post bothered me this time even though they usually don't. I have a son that will be Trayvon's age (at the time of death) in about 10 years. The "know his place" line bothered me because I imaged someone saying that about my son. I'm sure in 10 years he will dress in a way that I don't approve of (most parents of teens feel this way) and the progress this country has made should not be something he should be required to have on his mind when walking in any neighborhood. Being thankful he isn't lynched while a community closes their collective eyes should not have to be on his mind when choosing if he should or shouldn't answer a question.

It appears that the primary response on a message board and in life is that a black person should ignore comments like the ones Steve posts. As I've gotten older it has become a lot easier to do. The problem is when you don't, some believe that you are equally to blame for whatever transpires after you respond or that it is all your fault. It's a battle that we can't win. Why should we have more restraint than anyone else? Considering many of these same people don't come to this forum and have racial slurs directed towards them or see racist comments about their ethnic group, are you even qualified to tell me how I should feel or react? Have you ever had to walk in these size 12's?

When a white poster (chas) told me that he was going to violently rape my family several years ago and I responded by telling him I would kick his ass if he ever showed up to an event, I got a PM from someone that I like and respect telling me I was wrong. How should I respond to someone threatening my family that way? Let me know what day works for you? I even got a message from chas the other day telling me he wasn't sorry and that I should be an adult and get over his comments.

I've said many times I don't have a problem with Steve not liking black or brown people or anyone else who feels that way. That's a choice they have to live we. I and many other posters have ignored the countless racists comments over the years, has it stopped them? No. It appears the frequency of them have increased. At what point is enough enough? That's obviously a question that only I can answer.

Not ignore.

The comments are out there in the light of day and appropriately judged to be ridiculous. That is the most appropriate remedy to the written word. That is why he is Westboro Baptist Church.

We've had verbal assaults on religious beliefs here, not debate but outright assault. I disagree with the words. I might even occasionally get mired in responding.

I understand your position.

I'd chide you on the "we" but this is already at a sufficiently high Defcon that we can bring it up another day.

nas and dolphin are good people.

Anyway, back to the vague topic at hand .... I'm curious as to why racial talk is held in such "esteem", but we have board-wide word filters for some words .... can I get a rational explanation on how that all works together?

If Steve really is the troll that he appears to be, then all these threads about him would provide great amusement. The troll has been fed a great feast. In return, he is probably painting his bedroom walls white, if you know what I mean.

It's the same old story: people say shit on this (or any) message board they would never say in real life. I don't see why this place should be held to a higher standard. You can't control anyone else.

Another analogy I would make is to that preacher at Washington and State in front of the Old Navy. If you really listen to that guy for a couple of minutes, he is saying some distasteful stuff. Once in a while someone even engages him. However, I would bet a million people pass by him each week for the last at least twenty years and completely zone out his words. He wastes his time with no effect.

Good way to look at it.

I have always had a great deal of respect for Nas, Kid, RR, and others who have shown so much restraint around ES. I am not sure I could do the same if I were in their shoes.

I hope they are able to continue to ignore the BS and not get drug down to his level.

For me it comes down to this: If it were someone I actually respected, I probably would have more of a reaction. But it's just Steve. I expect nothing but drivel from him and he doesn't disappoint, so it's just nothing to get worked up about. We all know his bit. Nothing to see here.

It's not really an opinion. He literally said black people should know their place.

Im just asking. Where is the breaking point?

What if he just starts addressing every black guy here with a slur?

I find it funny all this outrage over Steve, yet almost none of you had a problem when several board members where implying that someone was a child rapist. Most of you thought it was funny.

Steve is wrong on what he said period. But it seems the heard here only applies rules to certain people.

Lets look at what Steve said by taking the racial shit out of it.

Not too long ago a "Kid"(he was not a kid 17 is a young adult). When approached by an adult questioning him about what he was up to the "kid" was expected to respond to the adult with common courtesy and answer instead of becoming belligerent and attacking the adult.

Wow once again disclosing what goes on in a PM. Way to be a pillar of following board form and mores. I did appologize. I said I would not take it back but I did cross a line and should not have. I will wait the lifetime it will take for anyone taking Nas to task for revealing what goes on in a PM .

Really how so?

Fuck it. I'm bored. I'll go.

Well Mr. Chas, when you make blanket statements like "most of you thought it was funny" in reference to the pedophilia jokes aimed at Reardon, it's necessary to call you out on your revisionist history. Not only did "most of you" not think it was funny, but there were several who spoke out against it with the belief that the perpetrators were above that kind of insulting and mudslinging. And while I'm in the mood:

Steve is wrong on what he said period. But it seems the heard here only applies rules to certain people.

Lets look at what Steve said by taking the racial shit out of it.

Not too long ago a "Kid"(he was not a kid 17 is a young adult). When approached by an adult questioning him about what he was up to the "kid" was expected to respond to the adult with common courtesy and answer instead of becoming belligerent and attacking the adult.

You're a dumbfuck. [this is me skipping civil debate and going straight to the namecalling of someone I don't respect.]

The part of your statement that I find the most appalling is where you say "by taking the racial shit out of it". You can't take the racial shit out of it because HE FUCKING SAID IT, you fucking dimwit. No one made it up. No one assumed he was hinting at it. He just came right out and said it. Therefore, the comments have to be addressed as they are. And how could you say that Steve was wrong for what he said, and then immediately try to enable him by "taking the racial shit out" of what he said?

And stop doing the "everybody's picking on me" bit at every turn. For a guy who was so quick to call me emo, I certainly have thicker skin than you - nevermind the fact that you've pretty much invited a good 97% of all the bullshit you receive on yourself.

Oh, and you're still two-faced. Good night.
