I will restrict this to only his guys. Hendry guys that he inherited are not included. I want to keep it to only prospects so, while Ian Stewart has played more minor league than MLB games in the organization, he doesn't make the list. Also, bad free agent signings like Edwin Jackson are not on the list. I have a feeling we will have more than enough of those to start its own thread once Ricketts opens the pocket book. Obviously the prospect thing is fluid. Maybe Rizzo will be different than the player he has shown himself to be in 2 of the 3 seasons he has seen MLB time. So far:

0-1 .000

Rizzo- as bigfan noted when he was acquired, this was Theo's guy. He drafted him and traded for him. This was the guy he knew as well as anyone. He is giving off a Hee Sop Choi vibe.

Rizzo is fine.

I was thinking about making a thread like this where people declare their guesses on all the prospects so we can bump it during the 2016 playoffs.

It's funny that bernstein considers Rizzo and Castro "prospects", but Sale and Quintana aren't. I'd hate to hear his opinions if he were a Cubs fan.

Did you happen to hear the analyst on Sir's show last night that was speaking absolutely glowingly about Quintana?

How do you like that one RPB?

Rizzo = Adam LaRoche
Castro = Shawon Dunston
Bryant = Kelly Gruber
Baez = Ozzie Guillen
Almora = David DeJesus
Soler = Dayan Viciedo

I'm not sure if that's the basis of a World Series team or not. I guess we have to wait until Theo signs the pitching.

The Rizzo Choi comparison is ridiculous, btw

Rizzo has most of Choi's career highs in 87 game this year

This is his first full season and he's on pace to end up with about 25 homeruns and 90 RBI's

Rizzo is a win.

1 for 1

No, didnt hear it.

Ive already said Quintana is temporarily making me look foolish with my prediction on him but he's gotta do it longer.

I like that idea.

As for Rizzo, I'd hardly call him fine. He is developing and the question on whether he is more than a prospect has hardly been answered. I am premature in saying 0-1 because development is rarely a straight line to the top, but more of a peaks and troughs thing.

If he ends this year hitting .255 with 25 homeruns and 92 RBI like he's on pace for, what's the issue?

A guy like Quintana is never going to be appreciated simply because he doesn't "blow guys away". Today's fan is interested in "dominance". I feel the same way you do about Quintana, but there's no reason he can't be a Moyer or a Boddicker or, if he's really good, maybe even a Jimmy Key. And that's a good guy to have in a rotation.

Arismendy Alcantara
Arodys Vizcaino
Pierce Johnson
Rob Zastryzny
Kyle Hendricks

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Realistically, it's probably 6 for 6, but it's also why it's silly for a guy to promise a World Series. You might be the one realistic Cub fan in the world so let's not talk about you. I have to think there would be great disappointment in Cub Nation if that's the way those guys turned out.

Oh I know. I appreciate guys like that. They just have such a smaller window for error it usually catches up with them.

I loved Jimmy Key

I don't know enough about most of those guys, but I'd say you hit the jackpot if Alcantara is as good as DeAza.

Castro isn't a Theo guy and I think Joe is pulling your leg. There is no similarity between Baez and Guillen. If any Sox SS is a comparison it would be Jose Valentin. I like Jose

The only person on that list with significant MLB time is Castro. On the surface I felt your comparison was extremely unfair. I looked up career stats. Castro batted 300, 307, and 283 in his first three years (2010-2012) with an average of 594 at bats in each and an average OBP of 337. Dunston never reached even 283 until his 10th year in the league if you exclude 1992 and 1993 when he played in a combined 25 games. His career batting average was 269 and career on OBP was 296. The steals numbers look similar. HR's favor Dunston. Castro doesn't look to have enough defensive skill. But at the plate, he far exceeds Dunston at an early age. Here's guessing that Castro is having one of those years and will revert back to a 280-300 hitter.

My conclusion Castro a definite notch above Dunston.

Ok, those numbers are pretty much to be expected. Id hope he keeps getting better and it turns into .270 30 100, but Im not sure what you were expecting.

You say gave up Cashner like he's a proven commodity. He's been average at best when he's managed to make a start.

One of my pet arguments is that Jimmy Key was better than David Cone. I can make it pretty good, but most people aren't going for it.

Baez likely has more power than Guillen (not tough to do), but I don't think he's going to hit like Valentin at the big league level.

I think there's more at work than a lack of PEDs for the decrease in power numbers for guys like Beckham and Alexei Ramirez. It makes sense to me that MLB deadened the balls so they could point to decreased run production and say "See? The game is now clean!"

I agree, but he isn't a Theo guy so stop mucking up my thread. It isn't even worth discussion as Castro will not be the shortstop when they win the world series. If he reverts back to his mean, they will move his ass out of town as quickly as possible.

But that's the definition of "hope" right there. The number of 19 and 20 year old prospects that ever come close to Dunston's career is minute.

I'd take Dunston at this point. At least he could play a little defense.

JORR. I had thought more of you. You disappoint me here.
Baez is a better hitter than fielder while Ozzie was all glove.
Bryant/Gruber? How can you make a comparison when Bryant hasn't played one professional game yet?
How many of these guys have you actually seen play?

On the other hand, the list of SS that made two all star games (legitmately) in their first two years and DIDNT have a better career than Dunston is minute and possibly even 0

Rizzo is fine.

I was thinking about making a thread like this where people declare their guesses on all the prospects so we can bump it during the 2016 playoffs.

Rizzo = Adam LaRoche
Castro = Shawon Dunston
Bryant = Kelly Gruber
Baez = Ozzie Guillen
Almora = David DeJesus
Soler = Dayan Viciedo

I'm not sure if that's the basis of a World Series team or not. I guess we have to wait until Theo signs the pitching.

JORR. I had thought more of you. You disappoint me here.
Baez is a better hitter than fielder while Ozzie was all glove.
Bryant/Gruber? How can you make a comparison when Bryant hasn't played one professional game yet?
How many of these guys have you actually seen play?

Now numbers scouting isn't any good? :lol: I wouldn't say Guillen was "all glove". He was a pesky offensive player. And probably overrated defensively by most people. He's one of Bill James' subjective "pets", i.e., James insists he's better than the objective numbers suggest.
