I don't know. Being gleeful over the fact that a player's injury lessens the chance that the Cubs succeed, regardless if Soriano suffers a twinge of pain during his pampered rehab from this point forward or not, is playing to the lowest common denominator at best.
Idiotic. I do not understand it. A failure on my part perhaps, but one I'm happy to have.

why? i dont like soriano, never have. i think he's a cocky POS. it just so happens he plays on the cubs. imsure a lot of cub fans hate AJ pierzynski, and werent fond of him when he were with the twins or giants. some cub fans probably wouldnt mind have AJ on the shelf for a while

imsure there's people rooting for something to happen to barry bonds between now and gametime so he'll forever be stuck at 755

I don't think he is playing to the lowest common denominator. I think he is sharing his honest feelings on the matter. That is why I appreciate it.

If he were playing to the lowest common denominator, he would be talking about how exciting the cubs are and how much he is looking forward to the stretch drive, blah, blah, blah. That would be bullshit - but it would be the way to ensure that he does not alienate any potential listeners that are Cub fans.

Well, if there are, they're being idiotic to enjoy the prospect of the player in question being hurt or out of action. Whomever the Cubs play, I hope they beat the hell out of them...on the scoreboard. I don't want the opposing team hurt. It's repugnant.
On a personal note, I wanted the Cubs to get Pierzynski. I think he's a no bullshit, hard playing, skin irritant that helps his team win. I hope someone breaks Bonds' soon to be record quite soon. I don't hope he breaks his leg thereby stopping him short of the record.

Well TF, it would appear we agree to disagree on this one. Mac being honest sure as shit doesn't make him right. He's a Sox fan. I get it. I listen to the show more often than not. When he's over the top like this...<click>

I should edit to clarify something. When I said lowest common denominator, I meant pandering to the meathead minority in the Sox fanbase. It stirs up emotions and arguments (like here, for instance) and boosts ratings.
Were Mac to pander to the Cubs fans and soft pedal this, two things would happen
A. Nobody would believe him
B. Harry would be pissed at Mac stepping on his toes.

Easy. History vs. Current events. That's all you got to say. I don't dwell on '03 and I wish that Sox fans wouldn't either.

i think you missed my point.
and i tend to dwell on 2005. 8)
there are too many games left. If you guys were up by 12 games in the division, then yeah...chirp away.

but the Sox nearly blew it in 2005....in AUGUST and SEPTEMBER.
so much can still happen this year.

Some good points have been made. Some real idiocy present also, like the predictable "he should watch his team" crap. My team isn't generating much discussion; the Cubs are. And I really want them to win the division. I like to travel -on the company dime - to cool cities. Plus, if they make it the World Series, it's an opportunity to see them collapse on a grander stage. Dickhead? You bet. At least I have chosen a lane, as somebody pointed out.

I suppose that you may find yourself irritating a good population of your listeners. Mac, honestly, I really do love this show. I listen anytime the Cubs aren't on 720. You don't see me here bashing Harry, or anyone else on the show (I apologize big time for the fatass comment, and that is serious. it was rude, and I was mad). But, from a Cubs fan listener, hearing you talk like that about my baseball team made me switch the dial. I would hope that you'd be honest about your Sox fandom, and you've done that (why weren't you at work after the WS Damnit! ). But I think that being honest about being a Sox fan is different than openly hoping that the "other" team drops off the charts. It impugnes your objectivity. (I know you like to think of yourselves as entertainers rather than journalists, right? But you do love to break stories don't you guys) Remember how you rail on the "East Coast Bias"?

Soriano? IS he an ass? I don't know, who the hell cares? He's hitting .300 and is playing a decent LF. Do I really could give a damn about Pierzynski being an ass? Who cares, he gives his team a lift and Fucks with 'em gets in their head....he's the guy rounding first screaming "Suzanne's a lesbian...A LEEESBIIIIIIAAAANNN!" and I love it. BAseball is a better place with a guy like that in it.

On a side note, your team should be generating the talk, IMHO. You should hold this team accountable for this season, much like we talked and talked and talked about How Hendry let the team down last year with the Phil Nevin situation, and how Baker never played him even though Hendry got him 2 months too late, on and on.
And if you only want the Cubs to win for free travel (to cool cities! Like what Detroit? Ugh), well, please keep it. It sounds condescending to Cubs fans and honestly it makes some of us want to turn the dial.
Mac I really wanna like you guys, and if you are a Sox fan sweet, but how many successful Packer Nation Radio shows are there in Chicago? They wouldn't listen that becuase no one wants to listen to a Packer show bashing the Bears all day long. Well maybe FavreFan but not the rest of us.

Darkside,
If it makes you feel any better, I wish the Cubs all the luck in the world. If they make the playoffs, I'll watch and wish them well, just as I did in 2003. My team sucks this year. That doesn't mean I started wishing bad things for the team that plays 8 miles north.

See... one exception to the rule.

And I am still the rule and I wont aplogize. I hope the Cubs fall flat on their faces for reasons I have expanded on. Why you even care what Sox fans think amazes me. Worry about Trying to find a bat off the waiver wire, not White Sox fans.
