just saw this today. i was a bit conflicted in the beginning...the film seemed to rush its backstory and it was confusing what was going on sometimes in the battle sequences because it's so "large" scaled.

while the monsters vs. robots stuff is entertaining and sometimes a bit overstimulating, the human story between the marshall, the girl, and charlie hunnam's character drive the story. hunnam isn't a very strong leading actor, and his american accent is muddled. but there is a lot of strength from the marshall. he's very good.

EDIT: duh, he's from "the wire". of course he's good...

some of it's pretty rollicking, and then sometimes it aims at some laughs...charlie day seems really out of place though. it doesn't really work most of the time. it's almost like he's crashing the set.

but overall i thought it was enjoyable. much better to appreciate on a big screen. i actually think this story would've been great for a saturday morning cartoon series. would give it a chance to flesh out the story a little more, which seemed to be hard to follow because it was so rushed.

Just saw it on IMAX in 3D .... Jesus Fucking Christ I felt like a child at his first movie; I was literally happy and my mouth literally dropped open during the first real fight off the Korean shore and I literally had some fun for a change.
