If you tell Bowden, he'll put the wrong name in the trade. I agree with your earlier assessment. He really is the worst.

Go get those three Theo. They look sooooo much better than the guys on Texas I have been looking at.

Isn't Martinson the guy Dr. Ken knows??

OK. I know this is a Packer fan pipe-dream but now you got me all excited about it.

Damn you.

I tried to buy the Sox section a round of beers and they're ready to fight me. Do you have my back? Grab the guns and bison meat.

That is a hell of a deal right there. I can't see Washington doing it but who knows......I did predict Logano having a bad day last week out of nowhere and bang......it happened.

Yeah.

Who'd ever think Logano would have a bad day?

Worry not. They will soon turn on each other and forget you were even there.

I'm exhausted from all of this trade talk. I will be ready tomorrow once bowden begins making completely baseless tweets and getting them nationally publicized.

That would be one of those moments where I'm bleeding, crying, and drunk. All while standing over the bodies of guys wearing once white and black Crede jerseys. I'm going to say no, because it's Friday. I reserve those moments for a Tuesday. By the way, the tears are because that awful song is playing.

Garza to the A's is imminent. Not really, but Rosenthal said they're in now. Pending a blood test.....whatever.

This guy would interest me. He's major league ready. However, this doesn't seem like an A's move. They're probably just bumping the price for the Rangers.

The Cubs liked him well enough to draft him in 2008. Couldn't get him signed and A's drafted him in 2011. Numbers are good this year, but not awe inspiring. Doesn't seem like a great get to me. Sure hoping they get better.

I bet the Cubs could pry away Courtney Hawkins and another top Sox prospect for Garza. Theo needs to pick up the phone.

Are the Cubs still working on trading this guy? Or has the brain trust decided he's needed for the Wildcard push? :drunken:

Sounds like they are back to having Garza on the market and the Rangers are just one of the many interested teams. Let him pitch tomorrow and then talks will heat back up Wednesday/Thursday so a team can get him for his next start.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if a deal were made before his start today, as that would give the team receiving him in the deal an extra start. But if he's around for the start today that's great, as long as he doesn't get hurt. But because of that risk, I'm sure the Cubs will try to make it happen today.

Interesting new names including the Pirates and Orioles. Lot of good talent in their farm systems. A's sound like they are still in. Red Sox, Cardinals still mentioned too.

In other words, nobody really wants him besides the Rangers. For fucks sake, just change out Ramirez for someone and take the fucking deal. Obviously, no other team will give them three prospects.

Peavy might be the one teams want now. That 1 year left on the contract is huge. Hope Epstoyer didn't overplay their hand on this one.

Edit: I'm not even sure I believe this. I think my Cub fan pessimism is creeping in.

Peavy can be a very good pitcher. But he has made more than 20 starts only once since 2008. He seems like a risky investment. Especially given the size of his contract.

That said, the only reason Garza is getting so much attention from the Rangers, is because they want to sign him long term. No doubt in my mind he signs there as a free agent.

Can't fault Jed/Theo at this point considering a deal was done until some questionable medical issues came up from one of the Rangers prospects coming our way. Still time, although a start tonight for the Cubs can only hurt his value.

sure you can when these issues occur year after year when they try to trade...premature leaks that the trade will be complete by the afternoon followed by snags that scrap the deal. It makes them look amateurish.

I agree. I don't know how involved in actual trade negotiations Theo is, but Jed comes off looking like a total dick every year on these things. It's become comical how consistently the Cubs cannot close a deal anymore. Instead of a power front office, they look more like a laughing stock.

I think the fan perception is worse than reality. They have already made trades this year, it's not like they can be classified as "bad" at closing. The medical issue isn't foreseeable. That's part of the process.

Calling off a trade that would have involved damaged goods coming in return only makes sense. Glad that they caught it in time. Pirates and Orioles make sense, as both teams could use another good starter, with no long term financial commitments. Getting it right is more important than getting it done quickly. With over a week left to make a deal, there is no great urgency.

The bottom line is, they shouldn't open up their damn mouths about a trade until after they look at the medical records. Second time this has happened in a major trade. Third time a major trade was reported "imminent" or "done" then reneged.

It's bad enough they are dicking Cubs fans around with this motley crew of players for a few years while they play fantasy minor league baseball, but they don't have to do it with important trades, as well.

They did nothing wrong. They didn't tell the media that the framework on a trade was in place, that was leaked by Garza's agent. They advised him out of courtesy. Unfortunately, Garza and his agent decided to make it public knowledge. They are not dicking Cub fans around. they are following a plan to build the team in a way that shall establish an organization capable of sustained success. The fact that this it indeed an important trade is good reason for them to be sure that the players received in such a trade are not damaged ones.
