Luckily I don't take golf as seriously as I once did as a youth. I guess I am not as good a player as I thought
I was in tournament play. Saturday I really did hit the ball about as well as I have in a few years. Had a couple
of drives over 320 and in the fairway. It is a funny game because yesterday I couldn't find my swing at all but
didn't have any 3 putts. I, like most who play, have a hard time putting all elements of my game together at
the same time.

I finally made it back out again after well over a year. I shot about as poorly as I would have expected not playing for that long. Shot a 57-53 and left a ton of strokes all over the course. The only redeeming thing was about a 25 footer for par.

Great time yesterday with my hockey team on the course. I think we shot more balls at each other than we did at the hole. Great time, our buddy with cancer made it through the whole day and even chipped in from 30 feet. Him and his partner (a +100 golfer) birdied 5 out of 6 holes on the back which was quite impressive.

Course was in nice shape, cart girl was attentive, but the rangers were assholes. I understand they are trying to move pace along and I respect that, but there are ways to doing it without having a police presence on every other hole. Every hole it seemed like there was a ranger watching us hit. They were dicks about it too.

I like the course, but not sure if I'm in a hurry to go back. Its not worth $90 and the gestappo atmosphere isn't very pleasant.

Can you really blame the rangers then? Seems like they need kudos for actually doing their job.

They never saw us hitting balls at each other. And we didn't slow anyone down. Yet, they were dicks the whole day. Rangers need to learn how to do their job. Hawking over a 4 some for an entire hole to watch them hit is NOT going to speed up play, its only going to make the golfers nervous.

Yelling at guys for going into the clubhouse to get a sandwich at the turn is not the proper way to do your job either.

We got caught all day once after a bad hole by all players, but of course as soon as that happened we had a ranger waiting for us at the next tee box to give us a lecture and tell us how slow we were.

We all ran into each other at the turn and we decided to mix up the 4somes because everyone wanted a chance to play with our buddy who's sick...the rangers really freaked out about that. Even though we were all at the turn at the same time and there was a 1-2 hole gap behind us at that point.

There's ways to do your job as a ranger and then there are ways to come off like an asshole, these guys were assholes.

Had the same experience when I played there last year as a single as I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Shot 76 at Woodruff yesterday that included 2 birdies and 4 other birdie lip-outs. It was by far the best I've played in probably 10 years.

Played Makray Memorial yesterday. Man is that a tough course. Not sure if I found the course to be challenging yet fun or challenging and unfair. Have to think about it some more. Really thick rough, lightning quick greens, most of which were amongst the smallest I've ever seen. The greens on holes 2,3, and 4 combined were probably the size of one regular green.

Very nice facility though and the course was in nice shape except for a few bare spots on the greens.

Had a really weird round. 41-42-83. Sometimes I'll shoot really well, but score poorly. This was the opposite. My iron play was attrocious, I started developing a hook which is new to me. Also, had trouble with my new 3wood where I was slicing everything including one into OB. But, off the tee I hit 11/14 fairways and around the green I got up and down with my 60 degree 5 times and chipped in with it once so those two factors really saved my round. Had one of those amazing chips you see on tv all weekend where I was a foot off the green, 6 feet from the pin, straight downhill. Carried it out of the thick rough exactly one foot and it rolled right into the cup.

The round cost me $75 on golfnow and I think that was fair considering the area the course is in. If you want a really stiff challenge this is definitely a course you should play.

Going to play Makray today :D . I'm a little concerned at how dry it's likely to be, as I prefer the greens to be a bit softer, so the ball is more likely to stick on an approach shot, but the drives are sure to get lots of roll. Gonna be a bit toasty out there, but while it might be too hot to work in this heat, it's okay to golf in as far as I'm concerned.

I fully intended to stay off the golf course this weekend but Sunday morning the weather was
perfect and after watching the British Open on TV for an hour I called for a tee time. Played
Shepherds Crook in Zion which is a links layout so it was as close to a British experience as I
was going to get. Hit the ball relatively well. Had a couple three putts on the front nine
and missed a handful of putts inside 6 feet. Was even par on the back nine until I got to
18 and took a double bogey. Finished with a 77. Highlight of the day was probably lipping
out an eagle chip on the ninth hole. I managed to two put from 6 feet for par. :(

Even 80 on Saturday afternoon at Coyote Run. My best round ever. Needed a 10-12' par putt on 18 for a 79 and I missed it :(

Was positively on fire on the front 9-- bogey, par, birdie, eagle (short par 4, drove it pin high, chipped in), par, bogey, bogey, birdie, par. 35 , -1 for the front 9 including just 12 putts. Then had the blow up holes- 7 on #10, par, and another 7 on #12, bogey, par, and everything else was bogey. Ended up with 45 on the back 9 which is good considering I only had 2 pars.

The 2 birdie putts were both over 30', and the par putt on the 9th hole was about 20-25'. Only 3 putted 1 green. The eagle chip on #4 was really something special. Getting an eagle had been on my bucket list for a couple of golf seasons now, so I was really stoked to get that.

Great round Frank. Real nice playing.

I've never finished a round (or 9 holes, for that matter) under-par. The closest I came was earlier in the year on a small course in Lemont. It's fucking stressful standing on the 8th tee box knowing all you need to do is make par to finish in the red. Albeit on a considerably different level, it gave me a clear understanding of exactly how good pro golfers really have to be to do that on a regular basis.

Thanks. My game has really come around. Driver is still so so, but irons are better and the short game has been damn near perfect for me anyway. In the last 3 rounds I've played, I've only 3 putted 5 holes.

2 weeks ago, same course, I was standing on the 9th tee with a 32. I didn't expect to finish under par, but it was one of the only chances I had to finish a "9" in the 30s (until Saturday). So what did I do then? Put up a snowman on the 9th hole :(

Yesterday one of the guys in our group was a 3.7 handicap. Real solid player, one of the best I've played against (we played for a $1 a hole, 2-man teams, switch every 6 holes). He played really well and still shot 77. So he basically played one stroke worse than his handicap says he "should" play. I'm really amazed at how good you have to be to have a scratch handicap. It's insane.

In other news.... I hate playing golf for money. Even though the stakes were very low (the most I could have lost was $18), it completely fucks with the mental aspect of my game. "Making things interesting" is more like "taking the fun out of the day".

I don't like playing golf for money either. It costs enough to play as it is. The only thing we do is on occasion is with par 3s. We put in a dollar and closest to the pin gets the money. So even on a short course the most you can lose is 7 or 8 bucks.

Nice job on the eagle Frank. As for shooting under par it is definitely challenging to keep your shit
together mentally and even harder to keep your swing right. I've only shot under par twice for 18
holes, both times being 2 under during college golf practice. When I was 17 years old I played a
golf tournament in Waukegan at Bonnie Brook, which is a nice little track. Anyway I shot a 4 under 32
on the front nine and then promptly walked the the 10th tee and hooked my drive out of bounds and
took a triple bogey! I managed to finish with a 32-41 = 73 and lost the tournament via scorecard, wasn't
even a playoff. It is tough to play well consistently only getting out once a week, seems like the game
finally starts coming around about this time, you can enjoy it for a few months and then the clubs go back
inside.

Completely agree. The game is interesting enough as it is. I played once or twice with a few guys that do a $5 Nassau and $1 for closest to the pin on par 3s. It was okay and I think I came out ahead, but I'm convinced one dude was cheating because he didn't want to lose $$. Who does that?

Played 9 holes this morning and will be playing my 1st 18 since mid-May on Wednesday. Two months without golf sucked ass.

Anyone play Frye Lake in Sherrard?

I was planning on playing the TPC Deere after going there but a buddy suggested Frye Lake. Looks like a sweet track and it's 49 bucks if you book online.....compared to 98 at Deere.

What courses really are worth what they charge on a Saturday or a Sunday? Even municipal tracks that are beat up can be $50+

I have no problem paying for an impressive course. Dubsdread with a $155 price tag (which includes other amenities) is certainly appropriate. It is maintained to Tour-quality. You just don't get that everywhere and it is a treat to play on immaculate greens and fairways.

I can't say the same for the Ravines course.

Agreed. The conditions on #2 aren't any different than #1 or #3. Just a little more difficult. The max price for all 3 courses should be $50-$55.

I played at Bolingbrook today. My buddy shot 38 on the front, and then proceeded to get an albatross on the par 5, 10th hole. He mishit his drive, and ONLY hit it 264 yards. He holed his second shot from 232 yards with a 3 iron. He ended up shooting 74.

I shot 48-50, but that place is tough, and I have only been out six times this year. I only lost three balls, and played pretty well around the greens. Six straight one putts during one stretch. I played holes 6-14 (nine holes) in 43.

Playing Ravisloe on Saturday morning in Homewood. Anyone ever been? Seems like a very well kept track. Been wanting to try it out for a while, so really looking forward to it!

Ravisloe was very nice. It used to be private and it still had that secluded, private feel to it. Some long par 4's, and lots of deep bunker including some right in the middle of the fairway. Tough track, but scorable if you hit the ball well. Very tough greens with lots of elevation changes.

Unfortunately, I did not and put up a 95 :(. Twice I had to use my Dad's lefty club to get out of 2 bunkers because I would not have had a shot otherwise. Moved the ball about 6-8' both times one still in the trap, the other barely out. Bad breaks on the lie, but still bad shots to get me in the trap. 3 putted 3 greens, and was +6 over all on the par 3's. Was pretty disappointing to play that poorly after having 4 of my last 5 rounds in the 80s.

Played Pine Meadow on Saturday afternoon. I was curious to see what it was like after the long time
superintendent left and I had heard they made a lot of changes. They took a lot of trees out and
cleaned up a lot of areas making each hole less secluded but on the flipside, easier to find your ball
if off line. Played the gold tees which was just under 7000 yds so that is pretty long for me. The tips
were over 7300 and no way I wanted to torture myself. As has happened many times the past month
or so, I hit the ball relatively well from tee to green but around the green and especially with the putter
I really let myself down. I managed an 80 with 4 three putts and a total of 5 putts missed from 6 feet
and in. The course was in decent shape from Tee to green but my playing partner and I were very
disappointed with the greens, which used to be the strongpoint of this course. It was Saturday and they
hadn't cut the greens or changed the pins from the day before. A lot of the greens seemed to be recovering
from some kind of disease and some of the pin placements were bordering on unfair. I have played that course
probably 100 times and never had seen them in many of the spots they had them. Not trying to make excuses
because I putted badly but these spots were crazy. I am glad I only paid the twillight rate of $39 or else I really
feel like I would have been ripped off.
