The #Cubs/#Cardinals rivalry could be a sight to see in 2017 or so.

Matt Garza has been traded for dogging it on a pie in the face routine. WAR.

Now watch Beane trade for a starter who is better than Garza the rest of the way.

C. Fleming Edwards has never allowed a home run in 160 minor league innings.

Grimm can start for the big league team right now. Excellent.

Olt can probably be up as soon as they dump Valbuena or Ransom.

Edwards will probably give up a HR in KC unless they send him straight to Daytona.

Ramirez in the ptbnl is not bad. I asked some Texas people about him and got a much better read on him. Could be an excellent big league reliever....just a shitty starter.

It's an intriguing deal the Cubs made. Mike Olt is a real key in this deal. He was a highly touted prospect who had struggled mightily in the minor leagues until about a month ago. That was when the Rangers were able to deal with a problem Olt has with his eyes. He has an issue with his right eye-it is unable to produce tears (insert joke about how playing for the Cub's should solve that here) and now he uses eye drops that have helped greatly. If he is able to become the 1st/3rd baseman he was projected to be, he could be a nice acquisition. It's curious that they would go after Olt after recently signing Kris Bryant, but it's never a bad thing to have too many good players. Grimm has not been very good with the Rangers (7-7 6.37 ERA) and Edwards was at single A ball, so it's too early to know for sure how he might work out. But if one of the 3 turns out to be an outstanding player, my guess is it's Olt. But the idea that he's going to be replacing Valbuena any time soon is way off. It's not likely to happen this season.

I think the point most are making is Olt isn't the key.

@Buster_ESPN: Some teams view Edwards as a Top 5 prospect in the Texas organization, with growing potential. It's fair return for a rental.

Don't hate on Grimm because of his stats this year. He was drafted a mere 3 years ago. It takes time to develop greatness. He is still only 24...for a few more weeks.

Have to assume he's in the rotation, right?

Okay, and I say those people are wrong and that if this deal is a win, it will be because Olt becomes a significant player at the major league level. Edwards may have a great future, but he's not far enough along to know yet. I doubt Grimm will ever be a top of the rotation guy.

Absolutely. I would put him there as soon as he becomes Cubs property.

The Cubs are getting two players to be named. If they can pull both from the same pool of players, this could be a really good deal.

Sending him and Olt to AAA. Interesting. CJ to Daytona.

Once Rusin gets lit again tonight they will let things settle down and then get him up.

I agree Grimm could be with the Cubs now, but they might have found something with his approach they will fix at Iowa.

There also isn't a roster spot with Rusin replacing Garza so there would be no point in sending someone down when you can just send Rusin back down tomorrow. He last pitched on the 12th. They need to get him a start to knock the rust off I would assume and then provide he doesn't blow he can come up. Maybe Rusin gets 2 starts then until the move is made to get him synched up with his future rotation spot.

160 IP and no HR's allowed. Dont care what level you pitch at, unless your parents held you back 2 grades so you can be the best 7th grader, I want you on my team!

The top 4 Cub pitching prospects involve both Texas and Garza now. Rosscup came to the Cubs with Garza and Hendricks was either for dempster or the big vajay last year and now Edwards and Grimm.

Sounds like Ramirez is for sure one of the players to be named later provided he doesn't fall apart in the next month.

Sounds like it is 1 or 2 ptbnl depending on who the Cubs pick

We'll see. What I'd like to know is what the Cubs offered Garza extension wise. If they offered 4/52 for example and he said no, then moving him would make sense. But if they only offered 3/36, then you gotta wonder if they feel he is that much of an injury risk because guys in their early 30's (when the Cubs should be in the race) that project as solid 2/3 starters are nearly impossible to find unless they are going to shell out 15M+ per annum.

As to the return, you gotta hope these vaunted talent evaluators know what they are doing when it comes to Olt. If he is a guy who can play real solid D, have a .340 OBP and hit 25 HR's, then he will have value as it seems a given that he will K 140 times per year and be a .230 BA guy. Then once one of the "phenoms" emerge from the farm, you can flip
Olt.

As to the arms, hopefully at least 1 proves decent. If Edwards becomes Juan Cruz, you gotta feel fortunate. Grimm? Once again, hopefully they can tweek his shit and maybe he can become "a guy". Ditto Rameriz.

We shall see. I wanted to see Garza re-sign, but now that he's gone, hopefully they don't get burned here. And I 'd certainly get a shitload of these eyedrops for Olt and get his ass up to the show this season (like next week) and give him 200 AB's the rest of the year.

Why the fuck not??

Just a guess:

Cubs wanted Ramirez in the deal. Didn't like his medical. Want to see how he heals, etc. If he doesn't, they get two other guys instead.

If Garza stays healthy, I predict he receives 5/82.5.

Exactly. I would be interested to see what the deal was that they nixed. I am pretty sure Jackson was never in the deal so it sounds like they added Grimm, kept basically the same deal with an escape clause and got another throw in...........and didn't have to give up Russell. Patience was rewarded handsomely it seems.
