I wonder why the hell Baez is out of the lineup today. Maybe he is off to the future game or something. That has to be coming up soon enough.

Arietta was brutal last night yet still showed promise. Just from reading the box score I get every indication that this guy is a headcase with a hell of an arm. He got ahead in the count and then dicked around trying to get a strikeout instead of an out. He was fine until something happened and then he lost it. He also should have gotten out of an inning but an error kept it alive and he complete unraveled. Sounds like a Big Z outing on a bad day. Hopefully this kid takes some coaching and figures it out.

Arietta is certainly worth the risk and Strop looks good so far. Good trade!

Baez is sure streaky. Must be trying to hard.

Baez hit that HR in his AA debut. He is now 0-19 since. I wonder what his deal is with advancing a level and sucking before adjusting. Its not like he hasn't seen AA talent. He played in the fall league and I'm sure has seen plenty of good pitchers at the other levels that are in AA themselves now.

In game update: He got a hit !!!

Where Is Brett Jackson?
By Al Yellon  @bleedcubbieblue on Jul 13 2013, 9:24a 24

The former No. 1 Cubs draft pick hasn't played in three weeks due to an injury, and no one with the Iowa Cubs knows where he is.

This isn't an existential question, it's a serious one regarding Brett Jackson, according to Des Moines Register writer Tommy Birch:

The 24-year-old Cubs prospect landed on the disabled list late last month but has been missing from the Iowa clubhouse since.

Jackson, who was placed on the disabled list with a right calf strain on June 22, is no longer listed on the Iowa team roster.

Iowa manager Marty Pevey wouldn’t shed any light on Jackson’s whereabouts.

"He’s not here," Pevey said.

Pevey said he didn’t know if Jackson had ventured to the Cubs’ extended spring training facility in Mesa, Ariz.Even before he was injured, Jackson was having the worst year of his career, hitting just .223/.300/.367 with 77 strikeouts in 215 at-bats. You'd think that if he were healthy, he'd be in Chicago, because the Cubs could use another outfielder right now, even just someone who could pinch-hit, pinch-run and play defense.

Jackson's OPS in the minor leagues has declined each of the last four years; he didn't hit well in his brief trial with the Cubs last August and September and played in just 14 spring-training games, going 5-for-17 with a double, triple and six walks.

All of this makes me wonder if Jackson has any future with the Cubs at all.

He is probably rehabbing in Arizona at the facility where they have more of a medical staff. They have 2-3 athletic trainers, physical therapists, specialists and theraputic pools and such. He didn't just go home.

Kyle Hendricks and Ivan Pineyro both dealt tonight with 5 IP a piece of shutout ball. 1 hit allowed for Hendricks who has mowed through the Southern League this season and 5 hits for the newly aquired Pineyro. No word on Pineyero's athleticism yet.

RT @PWSullivan: Brett Jackson mystery solved. Will rehab in Mesa and may go to Double A when ready to play.

Scotty Baker is the starter for Kane County today. Touched up for 4 runs in the first.

Arrieta kept his pitch count down and threw a dominant 6 innings of 3 hit 1 run ball. 9 K's and that asshole Ian Stewart was 2 of them.

Dillon Maples continuing to struggle. Sent back to Boise to learn how to throw strikes. Faced 3 batters, walked them all, pulled from the game. Ouch.

Arismendy Alcantara is a name not thrown around a great deal when Cubs prospects are discussed. But the switch hitting Dominican recently hit an upper deck homer in the futures game and is considered the Cubs 2nd baseman of the future. He has good power from both sides of the plate, despite being just 5 foot 10, 160 pounds, he has 13 homers already on the season, while hitting .280 with a .354 OBP and slugging at a .475 clip. He's a converted SS who's defense is a bit weak. With Barney struggling on the offensive side, this kid may get a chance before too long. Maybe as soon as next season...

Klaw says he's a reliever if he's able to stay healthy. He has serious mechanical issues.

Nice article in the Trib yesterday. Do you get home delivery or pick it up at the newstand?

He's likely to take over Garza's spot in the rotation, after Garza is traded, so I hope he's able to return to form soon. He was a very good starter for the Twins and the Cubs are already talking about extending him despite the fact that he has not pitched a game in the major leagues for them yet.

Definitely a sad start to his career. I was happy they were able to sign him out of HS.

I got the information on Cubs.com actually. I saw the homer he hit left handed into the upper deck in the All-Star futures game and wanted to know more about the kid. So I looked on the Cubs site and learned more. I would be interested in reading the Trib article as well, so if you have the ability to post it, I would enjoy reading it.

Baez just put #4 over the fence for the Smokies. 21 total on the season between the 2 levels.

Here's hoping that Baez can develop into a pesky little hitter like Ozzie was!

Let me know when he's hitting homers in the big leagues. You want to bet right now that his career average is less than Guillen's when he's done? You guys live in fantasyland.

I'll also bet you Anthony Rizzo doesn't hit 250 career homers.

Does Baez have more minor league shots than Karl Pagel yet?
