The White Sox have the 5th highest payroll (109M) on 13th highest revenue (173M).
If that fits your definition of cheap, than you are an idiot:

Silly. So many Cubs and Sox fans are silly. One can't criticize the other because they wear a different color. To quote Richie Daley, that's just silly, silly, silly.

Nice post Mac. I'm not a Cubs fan or a Sox fan and frankly, when you're talking about either team, I never think about you as a "Sox fan"...just a professional, glib host who knows his onions about baseball. Keep on keepin on. Don't let the dolts get you down. There is room for professionalism and objectivity on the radio, even if some fans don't appreciate it.

French onion soup or minestrone?

I trifled not with the (albeit normally tasty) soup on such a historic occasion. A delicious bacon cheeseburger and many a pint of Honker's.

I'm still puzzled by an Irish pub that gives out fortune cookies, though. It reminds me of the a scene from The Ref where Denis Leary's ethnicity is questioned

"Dr. Chang? You don't look Chinese."
"Well, my mother was Irish."
"And your father?"
"Wasn't."

As a Sox fan, having gone through all of 2005, and bearing no real crosstown grudges anymore as a result, I'd love for some of my truly great Cub and baseball fan friends and relatives to be able to experience what we as White Sox fans got to in 2005. However, the Cubs are not the team I root for, so I will not do so, and on the flip side of the previous statement, I'm not too thrilled at the prospect of nonstop chirping coming from the seemingly endless legions of assclowns.

Very well put, Stinkfinger.

You sound like my friends who are from Cleveland and don't understand why people here just don't root for both teams. Are you originally from Chicago? I was born and raised on the southside and take a lot of pride in the fact that the sox represent my side of town. I love the friendly back and forth between my friends who are cubs fans and my friends who are sox fans. In the end though, I agree with stinkfinger's sentiments.

i used to be a cub hater (still am to an extent) but not near as bad as i used to be. i dont openly root against them anymore. i dont really care to see them do well, but it doesnt bother me all that much either. as i said in another thread, my team has already won a world series title and it was awesome. so if the cubs win it all, yay for them. as far as im concerned, it wont "mean more" to the city or to anyone else, because my team already has a title in thier pockets.

Uh Mac, that wasn't my point.
I'm glad you're pointing out the Cubs deficiencies. Hoot for you. That's your job.
I'm saying you're a Chicago radio host, and you're talking shit about a Chicago team. It's not good Radio business.
How could you have completely missed that point?

What's the big deal, he talks about the Cubs, he's not forced to cheer for them. Exciting race? A bunch of bad teams who aren't good enough to run away with anything. Anyone who makes it into a big deal or anything are these 'my team is better than your team...our fans are better than your fans' losers.

No one gives a shit about injuries by the way. In 04, the Sox were looking good and lost both Maggs and Frank around the same time, and they were chalked as another embarrassment who couldn't beat the Twins. Hell, how about 05, everyone yells the Sox were lucky, so lucky they went through 3 closers, a 5th starter that broke down every two weeks, injured Podsednik which I think helped lead to that 2nd half slide, and old Dye/Crede's back. Quit fucking crying, every team has injuries.

Also, today's poll sucks though. Where's the 'who cares' option

This is stuipid.
Mac, you're just angering the Cubs fans, so if you don't care, neither do I I guess.
Just thought you'd like to know how your listeners feel. Well some of them.
I'm done with the rooting for the Brewers CONVERSATION!

That's just it. Rooting for the Brewers is being a fan whore. Mac is already a quisling for changing sides. Actively rooting for the Brewers just cheapens the entire process all the more.
Criticize the Cubs. They deserve it. They fucked up countless opportunities last night to get more than one run in. Hill had a reversal of his seemingly terminal HUA and pitched well...only to have the bats go to sleep. Criticize the Cubs every time they deserve it.
That isn't the problem I have with your radio showgram. It's rooting for the Brewers. Before this season, you didn't give a flying fuck in a rolling doughnut for the Brewers. Will the Brewers fortunes be as relevant to you if they weren't the main rival of the Cubs for the NLC? I highly doubt it. If it was the Pirates, the Reds, whomever was ahead of the Cubs, you'd be pulling for them just to irk Cub fans.

That's cheap.

When the Sox won, I respected what they accomplished, I was glad for my Sox fan friends, and I CERTAINLY didn't root for the BoSox, Angels or Astros. All four of those teams mean next to nothing to me. The Astros only slightly as they are a division rival. Otherwise, I couldn't have cared less. I didn't watch a minute of it.

I don't get the fan whore aspect of it. Criticize the Cubs. Dislike the Cubs. Your giggly gleefulness on Monday was repugnant. Being titilated that the Cubs lost...fine. Whatever. Being so giggly at the "Cubs misfortunes" when the main misfortune of that game was Soriano being injured is just crap.
You lost me on this one Mac. Being a fan whore and being happy over the Cubs' misfortunes when they are injury related is crap. Be critical all you want. I'll listen to that.

So here's a question for the holier than thou.....do you root for the Bears and anyone who is playing the Packers/Vikes (whoever you hate more)?

for everyone of you'se on the board who respected what the sox did, and maybe even rooted for them in 2005, there's another cub fan, maybe 2, who rooted against them. just about every single one of my cub fan friends had a red sox hat, then angles, then astros cap on.

I root for the Bears and the rest is all about Fantasy Football matchups.

That's about it.
Oh, and I'm not holier than thou. At least I don't think so.

Sounds like a lot of wasted money.
I can't switch teams like that frank. I just love my Cubs, all the rest is just static.

It's different Vince.
The outcomes of those games directly affect the Bears standing in the division/conference.

That's just plain fuvcked up. It occurs to me that people who are like that have some emotional disturbance.

With the notable exception of the Yankees.
It's perfectly ok to have the hate of the Yankees be the driving force of your life.

I root, cheer, emplore, and yell at the t.v. for the Bears. I could give a shit what else happens. I don't root for anyone else. If the Pack loses, so much the better, but I don't cheer for their opponant. Their opponants are meaningless. I do take an extra measure of satisfaction at the Bears beating the Pack, but that's as far as it goes.

Frank, your friends are fan whores as well then. I don't understand it and if that's a failing on my part, so be it.

If I come across as holier than thou, I apologize. I tend to be blunt and take things far too literally. I don't get it when you farm out your fandom for an opponent. Makes absolutely no sense to me. It seems churlish and child like to do so. Great when you're 12. As an adult...bizzarre.
