E Jax has been dealing lately, including tonight. Through 6 innings, 0 runs, 0 walks and only 2 hits. Could it be Bosio has helped this guy figure it out??

Are you not familiar with the previous decade or so of his career

Travis wood 2.0!!
His last 10 ip have been great. He might give up a 5 spot next inning but those last 10 are impressive.

No, he is just really inconsistent. He will be outstanding at times and truly awful just as often. He has had a nice stretch here of late, but he began the season with a much longer streak of suckage.

One thing that could be easily overlooked from last night's game....Junior Lake bats with runners at 1st and 2nd with one out (after Dejesus struck out) and hits a grounder to the shortstop, who is unable to get a double play because Lake beats the throw to 1st. Then, Lake scores all the way from 1st on the ball hit by Rizzo past the first baseman (Belt). A player with just average or even slightly better than average speed would not score on that play. But Lake scores the winning run due to his speed. he may not have had a hit in the game, but he still managed to impact the outcome in a positive way.

Rizzo gets a grounder by Belt last night to win the game and now Rizzo robs Belt of an RBI hit in the bottom of the 7th to keep the game scoreless. Rizzo is not likely to be getting Holiday cards from Belt this year....

This guy Strop made 2 bad decisions on bunted balls, but what a job to get out of a bases loaded nobody out situation without giving up a run!

Gregg is killing any trade value he may have had. Hopefully they found someone desperate enough to give them a decent prospect.

At least we are now seeing the good E Jax as opposed to the downright brutal E Jax from the beginning of the season. What is most encouraging is the lower pitch counts and fewer walks. That speaks to better command.

Nate's Revenge! That was such a Cub thing, usually it would be the other way around though. The guy the Cubs release hits the HR to beat them

That's true and it comes at a great time, with Nate being looked at by teams considering a trade. He has gotten on a good streak again at a great time for it.

cpguy-you are right about Gregg. It's unfortunate they didn't deal him 2-3 weeks ago. He's fallen off a bit recently and probably not going to bring much in return at this point. Probably nothing more than a class A prospect. But they signed him off waivers and were paying him very little. Hell, they got 20 saves out of him already, so the signing was already a very good one.

Can we at least revisit the coach Dale contract at this point? You dont just travel to the coast, play SF and sweep them, even if they sucked, its a hard road trip. Just ask the Sox and the trip to the A's over the years. He has put together a good staff, someone gets some credit for Travis Wood? Traded away 2/5 of the starters, didnt have a closer to start the season and the team has played over .500 since May 5.

You could do a hell of a lot worse than Dale Sveum.

Glad to see someone coming around. Not saying he was a longshot, but he wasnt the favorite and Theo hired the guy knowing it would not be pretty for a few years. I think he more than passed that part of the test.

Dont forget the bunting competition. That has taken them to a new level past the towel drill.

Would this be a .500 or close to it club if Marmol's dead ass was gone before the season? He blew a bunch of games early on that should have been wins.

The biggest thing is that they have changed the culture. These guys play hard. The dead ass days are no more under this regime.

Good pitching, defense, everyone busting their ass and timely hitting is the kind of ball I like to see. You won't dominate the all-star roster or have leaders in the offensive stat columns but you give yourself a chance to win everyday instead of being all or nothing.

I just hope Travis Wood has truly turned a corner and this isnt a career season that never happens again.

That happens with starters quite a bit
