Playing fantasy GM.. I'd offer Matt Adams (.301/.363/ .514, 140 OPS+ but blocked by Allen Craig), CMart and a couple positional B-C prospects for Crain, Peavy and Ramirez with no money being exchanged. It would be a gamble for both sides, but could pay off either or both ways.

Fortunately for the Cardinal, I'm not the GM..

Not a bad idea. I keep expecting the Cards to do something with Craig. I would rather have Adams long term.

It supports YOUR narrative.

I'd say it sounds about right in this case.

I know. My point is that we can find a stat to support almost any argument.

Wasn't it Vin Scully who said something like, "stats are most often used the way a drunk uses a lampost- for support rather than illumination"?

Frank is the drunk who thinks Ramirez is 23 of 24 defensively. What is he using fielding %? I'm surprised they even report that anymore.

I couldn't figure out what he was using. Most defensive metrics rate Ramirez very highly this season in spite of the amount of errors he has made.

I would bet that Ramirez rates pretty near the top 5 overall SS over the past few years.

Maybe but he won't be there in the next few years. They have to get out from under his contract. If that rumor is true I'm going to throw up on myself.

He might. Not this year though. And he's getting older, and costs a lot of money. If you can move him, get rid of some salary, and pick up some arms in the process (as you correctly pointed out GD, pitching is still king), then the Sox should do it.

Helping the Cardinals would be the best reason to trade him.

Your Cub fandom lasted less than 36 hours.

Dear god, how stupid would you have to be to actually consider dealing a player like Martinez for a 31 year old (and that's Cuban years, which means he could very well be a couple years older), shortstop who has seen his wRC+ fall from 95 and 96 in 2010 and '11 to 71 in 2012 and 75 this season, largely due to an almost impossibly low walk rate of 3.2(!) percent?

Don't get me wrong; I would still like to have Alexei Ramirez. I would. He's a very good defender, and he's still outhitting Pete Kozma. (Talk about damning with faint praise, eh?) But giving up a top-50 prospect in all of baseball? Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, say it ain't so, Mo.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Rangers have expressed interest in Alejandro De Aza.

It's really not nice of this Jon Morosi asshole to get my hopes up like this.

I feel prospects have become enormously overvalued. Though Cardinals prospects are the exception as fuckers seem to never bust out.

I'm warning you guys right now...if Hahn doesn't deal about 4-5 guys, I'm going to have a conniption fit. I'm hoping he's waiting until the homestand is over on Sunday.

I don't think Rick's going to wait that long. Alexei Ramirez needs a rest, and RV knows it.

They've already quit so they may as well trade everyone they can and start over.

Well Crain's arm is sore, so he is likely done for the year.

RE:Peavy

Jake Peavy could make his last start as a member of the White Sox this afternoon, as he takes on Justin Verlander and the Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field. The Sox aren't sure what they want to do with Peavy yet, writes ESPN's Buster Olney, but their asking price is "really high." The latest:

•The Red Sox, Cardinals, Dodgers, Braves, and Orioles each have a scout in attendance, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark, while the Reds and Rangers have two apiece. Keep in mind that their presence does not necessarily imply trade interest in Peavy.

Maybe they sent two scouts to follow DeAza.

If the Cardinals provide any combo of Martinez, Adams, or Wong for Peavy/Ramirez, White Sox fans should be pumped. Major League ready guys. It would be a steal.
