I will take the small minded part as an insult you really didnt mean, as I actually dont care if they are 20, 10 or 30 games out. Next year will be better when they are 3 games under .500 and 7 games out of first makes a much better target in my "small mind' and Sox fans are telling me they are a good team and they are only 6 game out of first as the Tigers are 3 games or so over.500,

I have taken the same shots when the team was over .500 as I do now.

The difference is now that Kenny is gone you have a real GM running the team who is on the verge of selling out his soul for the Sox way. Hahn would love to REBUILD the entire organization with a real minor league system, thus spending money to develop and acquire the players necessary.

I dont see Jerry spending that money, which is the crux of Jerry. From buying the Bulls, to spending Money on the Sox, to paying the luxury tax in the NBA, he tries his best not to do it. The sad thing is that the organizations he runs have the money, or better yet, they had it before he returned it to the owners as profits.

Jerry loves sending money to his investors. He does so for 2 reasons.

1- Sure makes him look good with some elite people, that he sends them large checks every year or so.
2- Its a huge pain in the ass to try and explain to investors that they are not getting a check because a team is rebuilding or spending luxury tax payments. There will always be a few that want to question you.

Fact is that Jerry has the money to do exactly what Ricketts is doing and he chooses not to.

It just seems there is an element of Cub nation that is basking in the White Sox failures. I believe Biggie representative of that. Personal feelings or pure feudal baseball meatballery, it wreaks of schadenfreude.

I think I have made it pretty clear of why this year, they are bad. Just an off year.

However, the ON year isnt that good either. The ON year is a .500 team, so to fall back that this year is out of nowhere is just foolng yourself. 3 of the last 6 years the Sox have been below .500 in what I continue to call a SHIT division.

My small mind can even see that.

There is not much on the ownership side of things that I would say is overly impressive. The purchase took an interminable amount of time. It was overly leveraged. This resulted in dangerously low cash flow that has hurt the team over the last two years and possibly into the future.

He has been ham handed in his approach to bricks and mortar improvements that the entire world is in agreement in needing to be made. His own public calculations put him at least a year behind but it seems to me that they are at least two years (remember the public funds days last year) behind their internal schedule almost exclusively because of his management of the situation.

I don't attribute any of the changes in on field talent philosophy to Ricketts. He hired Theo to make big splash (remember that it took him a long time to fire Hendry) when everything else about the team was sagging. Theo told Ricketts the only way he would sign on is if he had unfettered control. What did Ricketts care if he granted Theo this demand? Theo's plan was going to save him money in the long run even if he was 100% wrong while giving him safety from criticism for keeping a guy like Hendry in the office.

I was really disturbed by what I saw from the Ricketts kids in that Undercover Boss episode.

In short, no, I would not take Ricketts over Reindsdorf. Change that name to Cuban and I would be on board.

I thought the whole hot dog incident was the most telling. He couldn't handle the work, then lied about throwing away the hot dogs, then tried to buy his way out of the lie. That sent up all sorts of red flags on character to me...and this was the guy the sent out in front of a national audience to represent their management.

I agree with the shortcomings. It has been my issue with Ricketts, that the season ticket holders paid for a 2 year class for him in owning a baseball team. Since then however, he has hired some very good people and he has done anything and everything they have asked.

We all know Cuban would have spent right away and gone the Yankee route, but I dont think Cubans temper would have worked very well with the City Council issues, that might have been a total disaster.

In the long run, I think Ricketts might end up being the best possible owner for the Cubs, not what Uncle Jerry wanted. If you think about it, Cuban would have a dome started in Rosemont by now, which Jerry would have loved! All very Ironic how it could all turn out.

The people he hired to lobby city hall did a terrible job. The deal got done late AND they have to foot the entire bill. I think there was an argument to be made for public funding. However, you don't start off making those arguments in the paper against a savvy politician in a turbulent economic environment. The guys he hired after he fired the guys he hired didn't even do a very good job. This should not have been all that messy. First you get your signs...wait a year or two when momentum is on your side and get your hotel...then, as the team is winning as you hoped and the party atmosphere is back, you ask for your street festivals. One comprehensive agreement only served to bring the groups of professional complainers into a cohesive group of resistance. You divide and conquer.

He hired Theo. Like I said, I think Ricketts did it for PR, as he seemed perfectly content with Hendry. Theo knew this and forced his hand on the way things would be run like Paulie Cicero being brought on as a partner.
