The Cubs have climbed to within 8 games of the .500 mark. Any chance they see .500 before the year ends? With all the trades sending Feldman, Garza, Hairston, Soriano and who knows how many others away before the deadline, it seems unlikely. But they seem to be playing with a spark these days and that spark may just catch and turn into a fire that cannot be extinguished!! At least it's fun watching the games again.

wait just a second, what happened to you these games not mattering, you having an equally excellent season watching 100 losses and losses actually being wins in none playoff producing season because of the higher draft choice

I know you were just pulling my crank but in terms of the "plan" winning games right now is actually losing. Your young players are not the guys winning the games and the wins are hurting draft position.

It's amazing isn't it? Once Theo promotes Baez, Soler, Almora, Alcantara, Johnson, Vizcaino, Bryant and crew into Swaimer's hands the Cubs will likely runaway with the division for years to come.

Long live The Plan!

If they do get to .500, time to sign Coach D to his extension!

However, not expecting it, but it would be good to keep this winning thing going. It is good for young players to win.

Good idea to keep some guys around , Like De Jesus for next year. Will some guys get a sniff next year in Sept? Maybe...and you need to be able to have them get that look, so you cant sign vets on 3 year deal who might be sitting down and will start bitching about it. You do need good guys who understand they are stop gap guys.

The wins don't matter this season as far as the Cubs contending for anything. It's good for the young players though (Rizzo, Castro and newer players like Lake) to experience some success. Winning gets to be a habit. The draft position will be adversely affected, but at this point they have a system very well stocked with young talent and it's a whole lot more fun watching games that they win.

Having a chance for a Wildcard also translates into a big $$$ for the team. Can be the difference of 500K in attendance. That's a lot of Bison Dogs.

.500 this year? Not a chance. Same for next year but maybe the year after in 2015 they will be around it.

Seeing that they have NO CHANCE, will you give me 100-1 odds on that wager?

A team that is 7 games under .500 now and youre comfortable saying not a chance at .500 next year?

I wouldnt say that

In reality, a couple of additions and they could be 85 wins, fooling people they are a contender, and selling the place out. KA-CHING!!

Wonder what they do.

I still think winning is good for young players.

It is difficult to say Samardzija and Wood are in the middle of the success as the team is below .500 in their starts. Meanwhile, Feldman was the best pitcher on the team for the first 2-3 months and then Garza picked that title up about mid June.

Rizzo? Come on, man. He is along for the ride and the recent streak coincided with his slump. His overall numbers are OK but the guy is terribly inconsistent.

The team's success is largely attributable to the vets.

I would say Wood has been the best all year. Wood and Samardzija are getting better as the team gets better

Some of it is the vets, some is the young guys. I definitely think Rizzo is going to benefit from this year.
