I sleep light and the times I wake up because of a noise (kid walking to bathroom) or a kid crying my adrenalin gets me alert quickly. Problem is it is usually hard to go back to sleep.

I've been a gun owner for over 10 years. In that time frame, the gun has come out exactly once. When my I looked outside and saw a guy breaking into my neighbors house with a crowbar. I called the cops, took a picture with my cellphone, grabbed my gun in case he was armed himself, put it in my back pocket and went outside and yelled at the guy what the fuck do you think you're doing. He looked at me, walked to his car and drove off. I got his plate.
I brought my gun in case he charged me. he didn't. So I never took it out of my belt.

Only one other time someone saw me with it... it was a party in which a nasty drunken fight broke out and one guy was screaming that he was going to murder another guy and which bedroom will he be in, so I took it out of my safe and put it in it's usual (i.e, no guests present) location, and a jerkwad walked into my room as I was taking it out of the safe and freaked out seeing a 9 in my hands. But I wasn't gonna risk some drunken weirdo busting into MY room looking for the other drunk twat. If anyone knows my home it's easy to get to the bedrooms from outside, they're below ground level.

I'm not itching to cap someone. I hope it never comes to that. But I will say this, intrude into my home and you might get shot. I will not put my wife at risk of a rape or murder or god knows what.

Now that being said, I live in the middle of HO-WHERE, (thanks luda) and the possibility of any type of home defense is extremely remote. But I won't WISH I had a plan if something happens.

Also, for what it's worth, when there's guests or anything like that these weapons are locked in a safe.

Unless that person is running away or has their hands up. I believe restraint is needed unless your life is in danger but I guess that's kind of a subjective things. You showed restraint. The video probably tells the full story.

I never owned a gun because I always felt confident in my ability to beat the living shit out of somebody,gun or no gun. (I know that's dumb.)
BUT now due to my lousy health and just the fact I'm in my mid-fifties,there is a real good chance a couple of girl scouts could kick my ass. I have been considering buying a gun. Nothing I would ever pull out,but it's nice to know it's there.

4th of July weekend, end up at this chick's place over around Humboldt Park/West Bucktown-ish. It's ~2:30-3 AM and her cat gets out.
We can hear the little monster meowing in the next door yard, which has like a 7 foot wrought iron fence with "No Trespassing" and "Beware of Dog" signs.
She asks me to go get the cat. As I climb over the fence, motion detectors set off lights which spook the cat and it takes off into another neighbor's fenced in yard. ay yi yi.
