It's a great start. Was talking to one of our priests the other day, he thought Francis was still very conservative on the main theological points, however.

Personally, I like the guy a lot.

So far he is doing and saying the things I would expect out of a priest. Not just the Pope. He seems very humble, which is a virtue lacking in the Catholic Church in recent memory.

The symbolism of an act when you hold the office of pope is every bit as important as your words. Good start.

I think that the College of Cardinals got it right again. They have done well on 2 of the last 3.

My guess would be that he might have made it known he didnt want it and they finally talked him into it. Unless it is all an act he seems to be a very humble person.

Regardless of if you agree or disagree with what he has said, these issues are very real so I appreciate that he is addressing them, and rather candidly and honestly at that.

I don't think there is anything progressive about anything he has said.

Which ones are you referring to?

I don't get why he can just ignore the bible. He should want to kill gays. That's what his god wants:

Chapters 18 and 20 of Leviticus, which form part of the Holiness code, contain the following verses:

18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 18:22 KJV)[1]

20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." (Leviticus 20:13 KJV)[2]

Not familiar with the whole "I give you a new commandment" thing stated in John 13 but really implied as the meaning of Jesus' life, are you?

Are you saying you, after quoting the bible, are unaware of the explicit results of Jesus teaching for Catholics in regards to the Jewish religious laws that existed prior to his ministry?

Specifically divorce and gays and to a lesser degree the role of women in the church

Don't worry, man, that's a crap translation. the original aramaic or linear b or whatever (it's all greek, y0) is far more supportive of gay homosexuality:

The press is reporting for once what Catholics teach about gays. It's good to see some accurate reporting about it.

Women in the church is an issue that is greatly misunderstood.
