It really is surprising. Despite the fact that I can't stand him, he is a good speaker on radio, even if I don't agree with him. I'm not one for hyperbole, but his writing is awful. Not just bad, relative to radio. It is awful. Period.

Dan just tries to do too much. He seems to think that if he chooses not to use one modifier too many, emdash off an aside, and take a shot at the Blackhawks, someone out there might think it didn't occur to him to do so. Ergo, you get these meandering flights of fancy like "While you can't expect anything from something as frivolous and superficially demonstrative as an NFL training camp to matter for the regular season--which itself doesn't matter, much to the chagrin of the dangerously deluded racists who celebrate the winning of the NHL's star-crossedly pathetic Presidents' Trophy--you'd hope for it to convince you it might" that indeed demonstrate that Dan can write long sentences that maintain syntactical validity, but have no clarity whatsoever.
