Spelling has NEVER been made an issue of .... I frankly believe I recall a number of occasions wherein Alex said something like "spelling doesn't count on this show" .... that kid won't need to ever go coursing because he's already been proper fucked.

Correct; in final jeopardy spelling has always mattered. The kid was wrong.

And people who do their whining through the media should be shot.

The kid was wrong and his quote saying "I was cheated, it was JUST a spelling error "is troublesome

Spaulding is right about the theme songs, especially Diff'rent Strokes

If you dont like that theme song, your ears dont work

Yes, that is a very bad way to carry yourself.

In his defense, that really isn't a super easy answer to spell.

But rules are rules, and he answered incorrectly.

Fuck Alex Trebek. He is legendary for being a condescending prick most of the time to the contestants. Get a real job, Alex. Like a waitress.

That being said, rules are rules.

Sound it out. There's nothing tricky in that word at all.

I think its a relatively easy word to spell

E-MAN-CIP-A-TION

No silent letters or anything. The kid choked and wrote two T's.

That was probably the issue. Kid probably thought "Ee - mant - cee -pay - shun"

What's the story behind Frank and the Binny's clerk?

I would think that your rules say to ring up everything a customer brings to the counter.

Greg; I went to Binnys. Cute chick in line in front of me. Guy cashier was attempting to flirt with her. She shut him down. My turn. I set wine for the lady and a 30pack of High Life on the counter. The wine was rung up, the beer was not. I paid for the wine, left the store with wine and beer in tow, posted about it here. Its become a thing on the board. So, thats that.

i can't say i'm a huge fan of this mult in general; however, as a mult owner if you get a real person to argue with you, you've won

Frank has taken much more of a beating than he should have for it, but the mult has impeccable timing, and is one of the best mults that hasn't been eliminated.

A couple of other notes - First off, Trebek clearly stated during the response that the judges said it was not acceptable due to the fact is was "badly misspelled" (using this terminology is what made Alex look like a jerk & set off the media firestorm IMO). Secondly, the kid couldn't have won anyway (he was down by $30K) and the prize money for 2nd place is unaffected by the amount you finish with.

Fuck that. Jeopardy should be for Elite minds only. Regardless of age. Spelling is a core skill utilizing deduction and recall.

You agreed with Frank.

However, the leader, who was far ahead of the other two at $36,600 (vs. $9,600 and $6,400), surprisingly wagered $30,000.(Talk about confident... ) Had he missed the answer, the misspelling would have mattered.

Having said that, I agree with the ruling.

And my favorite Canadian is Neil Peart.

You are correct regarding the wager. However, the winner was also (coincidentally) a civil war buff...thus the confidence.

Agreed. It actually would've been far more interesting had the leader made the misspelling. Then you would have had people ripping him for hubris on his ill-advised bet (would have loved to seen his expression), and the judges/producers would have faced more heat as it appeared that they didn't want to shell out an additional $30k.

No balls of steel on that kid that was ahead. They made a math mistake.

Its not balls to bet 30K instead of 26K when 26K ensures victory.
