You are correct regarding the wager. However, the winner was also (coincidentally) a civil war buff...thus the confidence.

Agreed. It actually would've been far more interesting had the leader made the misspelling. Then you would have had people ripping him for hubris on his ill-advised bet (would have loved to seen his expression), and the judges/producers would have faced more heat as it appeared that they didn't want to shell out an additional $30k.

No balls of steel on that kid that was ahead. They made a math mistake.

Its not balls to bet 30K instead of 26K when 26K ensures victory.
