There is no doubt that is an idea that is being sold by the Cubs.

Not "equals" WS, but the added revenue helps get you closer to a WS.

I don't quite think there's a direct level of causality ... it's just a source of revenue, not the source of revenue.

The noise thing I completely get .... except at Wrigley .... I admit I'm way too poor to have been there in years, but unless they've put in some new soundsystem it's about the modern stadium equivalent of a $30 KMart boombox.
(do they even make those anymore?)

Right, but it is an added source of revenue that didnt exist before. More money to spend.

Clearly more money = more money to invest in players, but if we've seen anything it's that how you invest the money you have is just as important as how much money you have to invest.

Sure it's more incremental revenue, but it's not like the Cubs have been hancuffed by a lack of revenue over the past 15 years. It's an incremental increase for sure, but Forbes estimated the Cubs to have the 4th largest revenue stream in 2012 so lets stop all this bullshit right now about the Cubs needing jumbotron revenues to compete with the likes of the Pirates, Braves, Reds, Marlins, and Diamondbacks.

If we want to get down to what is more likely is that the Ricketts levered the fuck out of the Cubs acquisition and the debt service payments are pretty pesky at this point. Increased revenue would go a long way to servicing the debt.

Yeah, he seems alright. Plus, he hasn't rubbed my head, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

I'm with One Post. It only takes a couple of years (I'm looking at you Great American Ballpark) for the already hokey scoreboard to get dull and diminished, in fact near unreadable in spots. It's then a washed out eyesore on an otherwise beautiful ballpark.

as we consider how great the Cubs will be when they are able to spend all this revenue, I would direct your attention to the last 5 years or so of Theo's big contract free agent acquisitions. He buried one team and saddled another with debt in his first big move

6. Robinson Cano! yes, Cano. I know he is 30, but to give me a power hitting 2B, would be great. He has 5 solid years left. Give me a solid vet for 5 years! $75 Mill 5 years. Pay up. then we can ship the BarneyWatkins deal out the door.

Quote:
Either way, Cano is going to get paid, and there's every chance he's going to set a record in doing so. Take a look at the last few offseasons. Albert Pujols was 32 and got $24 million a year. Josh Hamilton was 32 and got $26.6 million a year despite being one of the most high-risk free agents ever. Zack Greinke, a pitcher, got $26.5 million and he's had one year in his career as a superstar. Cano hits the market younger than both Pujols and Hamilton, coming off another MVP-caliber season as the indisputable No. 1 talent on the market and does so at a time when the only place teams can compete for talent using money is on major league free agents. His top two suitors will be the two highest-revenue, highest-payroll teams in baseball, one of whom has crafted a multi-year strategy predicated on signing him.

Robinson Cano, $30 Million Man.

The Yankees will probably find a way to keep Cano and stay under the tax threshold, but by waiting this long, they're going to be forced to up the ante and in the process, and that could make Cano the first player to average $30 million a year on a new deal. Maybe it's seven years for $210 million, maybe it's 8/$240M, but when you consider the most recent free agents, the upcoming market and the teams in pursuit, it's clear that Cano is going to break the next round-number barrier.

biggie, your offer is juuuuust a bit outside.

Cano is nuts. I don't think he ever made an All-Star team. The Cubs would be better off with a combo of Logan Watkins & Donnie Murphy at 2nd. They should try to pick up about 3 or 4 decent hitters for next year to put at 3rd and in the OF but not go crazy with the money. That is all I'm asking for. There
is no harm in trying to be good, just in case your youngsters go belly up.
