The White Sox have requested waivers of Dewayne Wise for the purpose of granting his unconditional release, according to Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune (via Twitter). Wise appeared in 30 games for the White Sox this season, slashing .234/.258/.328 in April and May.

Dewayne has gotten far more of an MLB career than he ever could have hoped for. I suspect he isn't done even now.

Rios and Wells have been claimed. Wells by the phillies and Rios by an unknown team. Is it someone that actually wants to negotiate a deal or just a team being a dick and blocking someone else?

Quite a drop from asking for Martin Perez at the deadline.

Can't wait for Ranger to defend the deal by saying the Sox did the best they could.

All the reporting on the waiver claim was that there was no chance of a deal between the two sides. That the Sox were asking for way too much in return for Rios and the Rangers weren't budging. Then BAM!, he's shipped out for a PTBNL. Wonder what changed overnight?

I guess it depends on the PTBNL

Avisail Garcia is being recalled for the 2nd game of the doubleheader. Let's see if this kid can play...

Yep. I was hoping they could move utility infielder Beckham and "Losing Pitcher" John Danks.

I see the Sox unloading Rios as a sign the skipper will be back next season.

Just this week I heard bernstein authoritatively tell a caller that the Sox don't need to fire Ventura. His contract is up, they can let him go. This was parroted by Larry. I looked it up because I was pretty sure he is signed through next season. Yeah, he is. Is it really too much to ask that a guy who hosts a sports radio show know what he's talking about when it comes to sports? Or at least find out before he scolds a caller?

Bernsie did it again today with Hahn in interview. Hahn corrected him that he is under contract next year.

That's real nice. I think Ventura is a no nonsense guy. After Rios loafed to 1st in a game,he had seen enough. I bet he went to Hahn and said "move him".

what did he do the myriad times De Aza made mental errors or when Beckham didn't remember the number of outs while on second base and got doubled up

Ventura has allowed a lot of nonsense this year for a no nonsense guy with no apparent rebuke

The Chicago White Sox have signed shortstop Tommy Manzella to a minor league contract, a source has confirmed to MLB Daily Dish. The 30-year old will report to Double-A Birmingham after being released by the Blue Jays earlier in the week.

After signing with the Rockies last offseason, Manzella appeared in 32 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs to start the season, and hit .190 with 10 RBI before being released in late May. He signed with the Blue Jays on June 4th, and reported to Double-A New Hampshire. In 53 games between Colorado Springs and New Hampshire this season, Manzella has hit .220 with 20 RBI in 173 at-bats.

Manzella appeared in 90 big league games with the Astros in 2009 and 2010, hitting .224 with 1 RBI. He spent the last two months of his 2012 season in the White Sox' system with Triple-A Charlotte after seeing time in the Brewers and Diamondbacks organizations to begin the year.

That is quite possibly the most simplistic understanding/analysis of waivers I have ever seen written in a professional piece.
