It's a trick question as all three men who have started at 1B this year for the Sox currently are hitting better than Anthony Rizzo.

Normal developmental period for a 23 year old player who is on pace for 20+ HR's and 80 RBI, which would be similiar to the Viciedo 2012 season that people seem to call "underrated" at the time

Don't be so defensive. I'm just pointing out a statistical fact.

Now, when I pull up the 0-1 on the Theo-Prospect-O-Meter thread then you can get defensive

I'm not worried about Rizzo.

Once he gets on the Paul Konerko injection workout, you'll see some results next year.

Not to upset you guys further but Rizzo turned 24 last week, you know, the same age as Chris Sale

yeah, GD is trolling, but Rizzo is a major disappointment.

Somebody has a little pep in their step today. It must be nice winning an August series vs Detroit for once.

If Theo had acquired 26 year-old Cashner and his stellar 8-6 record in reverse, would Theo now be 1-for-1?

Thought not.

Keith Law was on Silvaddle today and was saying that hoping for the Cubs to be competitive in 2015 is being optimistic.

Good thing I don't put any faith in baseball experts.

and Jesus said to Peter, don't worry, I hear world series championship winning general manager Kenny Williams is looking to get back into the game again. He will not lead you astray with words of rebuilding and five year plans.

Because the sox fan says so.

You would have to be a full on blue kool aid drinker to think 2015 is a legitimate time frame. 2015 is a fairly reasonable (if not somewhat optimistic) ETA for prospects to start arriving and you have to factor in some time for an MLB learning curve.

Right now 2016 has to be the expected time frame for being competitive. I believe that is 1 year behind the expected schedule. Couple that with being 1 year behind schedule for bricks and mortar improvements and you have a pretty lousy beginning to the President's administration.

I expect them to be competitive next year. They were damn near competitive this year and you'd imagine they will add a few more pieces, a Lake-like prospect or two will contribute, and they won't be selling off next year. Maybe you get something out of Scott Baker or another wildcard.

They likely won't win anything. But, they will be competitive, as in within 10 games of the playoffs. We've hit the nadir. It's all up from here.

1. Are the Cubs on a free agent moratorium until 2015 offseason? They aren't allowed to add anyone except prospects the next two offseasons?

2. In Epstein's introductory press conference Ricketts said Epstein is president of baseball operations. The business aspect is a separate function not in his job description. You're using things Bernstein & other dumb media members have incorrectly stated.

You have absolutely no reason to feel as comfortable with Theo the big money free agent hunter as you do with Theo the prospect finder.

I picture a hobbled and ridiculously overpriced Jacoby Ellsbury blocking the path of Alberto Almora to the major leagues in your future.

I don't think so. Big Chicagoan posted an article from the Sun-Times where Theo has admitted he is under spending constraints.

Gavin Floyd would fit nicely behind Samardzija and Jackson when he returns after the All Star break next year.

I read that as well where he basically said they can throw a few mil here and there but will not be pursuing any of the big contract guys. I enjoy the climb up the mountain. I like minor league baseball. I like development. I don't care if it takes 10 years. The worst is the decent down the mountain that you didn't even finish climbing with overpaid, lazy entitled douchebags.

The guy the Cubs let go to Japan was an All-Star 1st basemen. I bet he would have had a better season than this.
Castro is getting better at SS and his hitting has picked up a little bit. Barney should only be starting for a team that does not need a bat at 2nd. The rest of the starting lineup is full of retreads and throwaways.

Ricketts is 0-4 as an owner.
