Surprised / not surprised? I have a feeling some (myself included) are gonna say "of course he's gay" although no one called it.
Darren Young, one half of the tag team duo the Prime Time Players in WWE, came out to TMZ recently, revealing that he is gay and "very happy".
A TMZ photog recently caught up with WWE superstar Darren Young, who is currently one half of the Prime Time Players tag team alongside Titus O'Neil, and asked him a question regarding whether or not a gay professional wrestler could ever succeed in the industry.
And then he dropped the news that he himself is gay and "very happy" with his life and career.
"Absolutely (I think a gay wrestler could be successful), look at me. I'm a WWE superstar and to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay. And I'm happy, very happy. To be honest, I don't think it matters. Does it matter? Does it matter to you? Does it change what you think about me? I guess if you want to call it coming out; I really don't know what to say it is but I'm just letting you know. I'm happy with who I am, I'm comfortable with myself, and I'm happy to be living the dream. I'm in L.A. for 'SummerSlam' with WWE. You know, to be honest with you, I'm happy with myself. Some people might not like it, some people will like it but I'm here to please myself. I'm here to be happy and it's very important that I'm happy with myself. I'm hoping to be able to make a difference, you know? It's very important to me that people understand that someone's sexual preference shouldn't really matter. It should be about the person."

Young certainly isn't the first gay wrestler and he won't be the last but I can't remember there ever being this high profile a reveal for an active talent who consistently appears on television. Considering the nature of the WWE locker room, one assumes this is information many of his co-workers have already been privy to and simply kept to themselves.
Which hopefully means he's found nothing but acceptance.
Then again, there's no telling if that's actually the reality of the situation and, as he himself admits in the above video, this could cause an issue for some, be they fans or otherwise.
Let's hope that's not the case because, let's be honest, this has absolutely zero bearing on his professional life, or at least it shouldn't.
