That's the thing Tiny. There is no one who would have been. I mean I like JimmyPasta, but this Cubs stuff is pretty equivalent to Abe Simpson shaking his fist at a cloud.

Who doesn't like Jimmy Pasta? He's the Sara Lee of message board posters.

The Sara Lee Black Forest cake was the best!

Thanks,I would like to think I'm as logical as Spock, but when it comes to the Cubs I lose it. "The Pirates have a great young team" If I hear that in the playoffs,I'll throw up. 20 years of major suckage. I don't want that for the Cubs.

In a different context, 20 years of major suckage could be quite fun.

Then you picked the wrong team in 1952.

I started rooting for the Cubs in 1967. From 67-'73,they were damn good just not good enough. In the early '70's,there was a lot of that in Chicago. Bulls & Hawks were also very good. The Bears didn't do anything until 1976 when Jack Pardee got them to finish at .500,that was a big deal. Still,in 1977,that was a very exciting season until they got creamed by the Cowboys in the playoffs.

Theo has had some bad signings, too. The latest might be Rizzo.

How is Rizzo a bad signing? even if he hits .240 with 25 HR and 80 RIBs going forward, it's a reasonable price for a MLB 1B

The point is they have money tied into a kid who might be hitting his ceiling at .240 & 25 HR's. Time will tell,no need for namecalling. I'm angry because I'm watching a team I loved since childhood approaching close to 200 losses in two years. If you are fine with that, than you are the consistent dope.

Anthony Rizzo 2013: .232 /.323 /.431 $750k
Carlos Pena 2011: .225 / .357 /.462 $10.0M

Do you see a $9.25M difference in performance there?

You left out the other 40 mil (or so) the Cubs committed to Rizzo. No such commitment to Pena.

Yeah, but next year is next year. It has yet to happen. I'm pretty sure we know what Carlos Pena is... you have him the next season, he puts up another .230 / 25 / 80 season. Who's to say Rizzo may put up solid numbers during the duration of his contract?

2013 $750,000
2014 $1.25 million
2015 $5 million
2016 $5 million
2017 $7 million
2018 $7million
2019 $11 million

Are you fucking dense?

Maybe you are. This is the same Rizzo who shit the bed in a Padre uniform, petered out last year after a great start, petered out this year and people are saying he does not like to be "coached" when it comes to hitting. We shall see.

I am grateful I didn't click on this thread until now. I would have gone crazy. I suspect the win now folks are the same people that are pissed when a FA gets big money and then craps in the bed over the life of the contract.

The Cubs are doing this the right way. They are going to build an incredibly deep organization. The fans will love this team (like the Blackhawks are loved now) because they will be winning with their own guys. Let the Yankees, Dodgers and Red Sox waste money on hired hands. When Theo is done, the Cubs will own the Central for the better part of a decade.

Or they'll be an 85-90 win team that misses the playoffs because of the deep division.

Or they'll be an 85-90 win team that makes the playoffs but can't win a World Series.

Or they'll be an 85-90 win team that wins a World Series.

Yeah, and at the end of the rainbow is a pot of gold. Losing (because you didn't try) is never acceptable under any circumstances, but that's just me. It looks like I'm up against it here. I'll go check to see where Cubbie Girl Shamus hangs out now.

See, a rational, reasonable fan!

It's well chronicled on this board , I'm a Cardinal guy, so as far as you can get from some sort of Epstoyer/ Cub apologist. James, those are just bad thoughts about baseball. No other way to describe it, really.

In one year, you'll be complaining they suck. You have the worst baseball thoughts ever. I'm going to stop reading this thread after the above post. It would be pointless to continue.

no,the point is the "teardown, give me 4-7 years bullshit" is a joke. You can have a decent major club AND rebuild.

Yeah, like the Sox did.... oh wait.

Seriously, Sox fans need to just shut up about Theo and the Cubs. I don't understand the obsession Sox fans have with the Cubs. I could see if the Sox where actually a well ran team and Sox fans actually had something to be proud of, but the Sox are horrible and have traded away the farm system to "stay competitive".

Don't throw Steve Stone if you live in a glass house.
