I got 4 between the ages of 7-11 so always on the lookout for books to read the crew during the evening. Just finished a really really good one. It's a science fiction fantasy that is good for boys and girls. Lemme know if you got any.

The entire Little House on the Prairie series should be mandatory reading for every American. Read it together as a family.

I read, If You Take A Mouse To A Movie yesterday night. That would not keep everyone's interest.

Somehow I found a kids version of The Canterbury Tales in our stack of books. I don't know how we acquired that one. I assume they skip over the story where a person is tricked into kissing another person's butthole.

He's reading Hardy Boys graphic novels.

It's really an epic of an American family on the frontier with Pa being the hero character. I'm a grown man and found it fascinating, it's really more of a story for adults. That's why I suggest reading it together....kids don't understand a lot of the issues and archaic terminology.

I actually started reading that to my kids, but it was written with so much slang and phonetically spelled words that my kids actually got kinda confused. I suppose it would be fine if I just read it to them. We sit around and read the books to each other. I would read five pages and then my kid would read two... stuff like that.

Those Search for WondLa books have been optioned for a movie in 2010 (before the books were even released).

"According to Mike Fleming at Deadline New York, Paramount Pictures is looking to option The Search for WondLa, a forthcoming fantasy children’s book series from author Tony DiTerlizzi, who also wrote the highly popular series The Spiderwick Chronicles. The deal is reportedly worth six figures."

Thanks, I'll have to check this out. She was reading through the Harry Potter books but slowed down a bit recently to pick up some other stuff.

I'm trying to get her started on some of the classics. That said, she picked Phantom of the Opera and Red Badge of Courage, which should be over her head; though, she has had a fascination with the Civil War for whatever reason. I don't remember how graphic these were, so I may be looking for a psychiatrist soon.

Yeah... check them out. They are even fun for you to read. They go quick and they are interesting if you like sci-fi/fantasy stuff. This is the guy who wrote the Spiderwick Chronicles.

Beverly Cleary was another very good children's book author.

The Mouse and the Motorcyle was another of my favorites as a yute.

MUD, I've heard good things about the Lemony Snicket series...they may be a tad young for it but maybe closer to 10, 11 year olds will enjoy it.

Didn't WWE superstar Mick Foley write some children books.

I've heard good things about The 39 Clues Series, Percy Jackson and Pendragon.

We've been through Magic Tree House, Nate the Great, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, and most of Harry Potter. He did not like My weird school.

If you have junior high girls I loved the Sweet Valley Twins and Babysitters Club books. I don't know if they are still out. Christopher Pike books were good in High Schoolish age.

Also if you are looking for cheap second hand books try abebooks.com. Very cheap some are $1 with free shipping. I use them all the time and get great deals on books in decent shape.
